Spurs’ Trophy Drought: Domino’s Giant Billboard Marks the Pain

Domino’s Unveils Cheeky Billboard Outside Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

A digital billboard outside Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has been unveiled by Domino’s, marking the length of time that has passed since the north London club last won a trophy. The pizza giant has taken a cheeky jab at Spurs’ lengthy trophy-less run, with the billboard displaying a massive tally of 1,569,226,205 pizzas sold across the UK and Ireland since Spurs last nabbed a trophy in 2008.

According to the Daily Star, the unveiling comes as today marks exactly 17 years, two months, and twenty-four days, or 6,279 days of silverware silence for the club, dating back to their 2008 League Cup triumph over Chelsea with a zesty 2-1 victory. The billboard, which is located near the Lilywhites’ home turf, is a sassy live billboard that will remain on display as the North London squad preps for their major showdown in Bilbao’s Estadio de San Mamés against Manchester United.

The count of 1,569,226,205 pizzas sold is a staggering number, and Domino’s claims it is enough dough to blanket Tottenham’s pitch an astonishing 25,873 times. A rep from Domino’s quipped: "We’re not taking sides, but if Spurs deliver in Bilbao, we’ll happily reset the counter to zero." Adding: "We always deliver– now it’s their turn to do the same in the final." They didn’t shy away from nudging: "And of course, all eyes are on Ange… no pressure, mate."

As reported by the Daily Star, in recent memory, Spurs nearly snagged a trophy in 2021, only to be snatched away by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City at the EFL Cup final. They’ll be doubly eager for a win on 21st May, as securing silverware would give them the bragging rights of having had a ‘superior’ season to their fierce rivals Arsenal. The Gunners battled hard in the latter stages of both the Premier League and Champions League, only to be knocked out in the semi-finals by Paris Saint Germain.

However, Mikel Arteta’s squad will wrap up the season empty-handed – even if they clinch second place in the league, compared to Spurs’ lower-mid-table standing. Adding insult to injury, former star player Harry Kane – Tottenham’s most prolific striker in recent times – has just bagged his first major team trophy. He was part of the Bayern Munich squad that recently secured the Bundesliga title, marking their 34th time as champions of Germany.

The Daily Star understands that Spurs fans will be eagerly awaiting their team’s performance in the Europa League final, and Domino’s cheeky billboard is sure to add fuel to the fire. As the Daily Star reported earlier, the pizza giant is known for its innovative marketing tactics, and this billboard is no exception.

Domino’s has a history of using creative and humorous marketing campaigns to engage with customers, and this billboard is just the latest example. As the company continues to promote its brand and products, it will be interesting to see how Spurs fans react to the cheeky billboard. One thing is certain, however: the team at Domino’s has certainly got the conversation started.
