Gills Land Young Gun Palmer-Houlden

Gillingham Football Club Secures Signing of Sebastian Palmer-Houlden

In a significant move, Gareth Ainsworth has made his first signing as Gillingham manager with the capture of 21-year-old striker Sebastian Palmer-Houlden from Bristol City, as confirmed by Gillingham Football Club’s official website. Palmer-Houlden has signed a three-year contract with the club for an undisclosed fee.

The young striker has been with Bristol City since he was eight years old but made his competitive debut while on loan at Yeovil in the National League in February 2023. During his loan spell at Yeovil, Palmer-Houlden gained valuable experience, which he built upon with another loan move to Newport County the following season. In 42 appearances for Newport County, he scored nine goals, demonstrating his potential as a promising young talent.

In the summer, Palmer-Houlden went on loan to Dundee in the Scottish Premier League, where he continued to impress, netting nine goals in 39 outings. His performances have caught the attention of Gillingham manager Gareth Ainsworth, who expressed his delight in securing the player’s signature. According to Gillingham Football Club’s official website, Ainsworth said: “Seb is a player we have been looking at for a while now and there was a lot of competition for his signature. We managed to sort everything quickly and I am delighted to have him with us.”

Palmer-Houlden has expressed his excitement about joining Gillingham, stating: “I am so excited to be here and I can’t wait for the season to start and get going. I like to get fans off their seats, I like to press high, get in behind and score goals. I am looking forward to meeting the boys.” The club’s fans will be eager to see him in action, and Ainsworth believes that Palmer-Houlden has a bright future in the game, citing his speed, work rate, and goal-scoring ability.

The signing of Palmer-Houlden marks a significant coup for Ainsworth, who has been keen to strengthen his squad ahead of the new season. As reported by Gillingham Football Club’s official website, the deal is subject to EFL/FA ratification, and Palmer-Houlden will officially join the club on June 1, following the conclusion of his loan deal at Dundee.

Gillingham fans will be excited to see what Palmer-Houlden can bring to the team, and Ainsworth is confident that he will be a valuable addition to the squad. As the team prepares for the upcoming season, the signing of Palmer-Houlden is a positive step in the right direction. With his pace, skill, and goal-scoring ability, Palmer-Houlden is likely to become a fan favorite at MEMS Priestfield Stadium, and Gillingham Football Club’s official website will undoubtedly provide extensive coverage of his progress.
