Punjab Kings’ Bowling Attack Leaves Them Vulnerable, Says Sanjay Manjrekar
The Economic Times has learned that former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has expressed concerns over Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) bowling attack, stating that it leaves them "a bit vulnerable". Manjrekar’s comments come in the wake of PBKS’ loss to Delhi Capitals (DC) by six wickets, which has put their finish in the top two at risk.
According to reports, PBKS are currently second in the standings, but their position is precarious, with only one game left to play. But if they can sort out their bowling a little, things could improve."
The Economic Times understands that PBKS’ bowling attack did not feature lead spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, and also did not utilise Marco Jansen with the new ball and in death overs. Instead, the team used Azmatullah Omarzai and all-rounder Marcus Stoinis while defending 207. Manjrekar questioned the decision, stating, "I am not sure why Chahal didn’t play. In the end, when they could not defend 200, it was not about bowling poorly — it just looked like they lacked the ability."
Manjrekar, a JioStar expert, also expressed doubts about the ability of Stoinis and Omarzai to defend a large total in the final over. "Stoinis, despite his best efforts, was never going to defend 8 or 10 runs in the final over. The same applies to Omarzai in these conditions," he said. The comments suggest that PBKS’ bowling attack may be a liability, and that they need to address this weakness if they are to secure a top-two finish.

According to him, Gujarat Titans (GT) are well-placed to achieve this, having won nine out of their 13 games so far and lost just four, including their most recent game to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). "I think Gujarat Titans might be the first team to secure a top-two spot," he said. "They have only dropped one game, which could be just what they need to recharge and come back stronger in the next match."
