London’s Best-Kept Secret: Battersea Roof Gardens Open to the Public
High above the iconic Battersea Power Station lies one of London’s most spectacular and secret green spaces: the Battersea Roof Gardens. According to a report by Secret London, this lush rooftop oasis is usually reserved exclusively for residents, but for a limited time, visitors can win a chance to experience this urban paradise for themselves.
The Battersea Roof Gardens span an impressive 29,000 square feet, making it one of the largest residential rooftop gardens in London. Designed by internationally renowned landscape architect James Corner of Field Operations and brought to life by the award-winning LDA Design, the garden is a masterclass in urban landscaping.
The planting in the garden is nothing short of breathtaking, with waves of green and yellow Euphorbia alongside tall, violet-blue spires of Perovskia, creating a vibrant, ever-changing canvas that attracts bees and butterflies. As noted by Secret London, “In late spring and early summer, clusters of purple Alliums and sea holly give way to long-flowering mauve Verbena, all set against a backdrop of golden grasses. The result? A living, breathing artwork that shifts with the seasons.”
Woven into this botanical wonderland are inviting seating areas, a generous community dining table, and wooden loungers perfect for soaking up the sun. There’s even a grassed area for yoga and small events, making this a true sanctuary above the city. As Secret London reports, “The garden is a haven for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.”
