Millions of Virgin Media Customers Eligible for Free Upgrade – But Are You One of Them?

Virgin Media Customers Entitled to Free Upgrade as Part of New Security Initiative

In a move to enhance customer experience and security, Virgin Media is offering free upgrades to customers with outdated equipment. The UK Internet Service Provider (ISP) is sending letters to customers with old Wi-Fi routers, informing them that they can upgrade to a newer model at no extra cost.

According to a report, customers who receive a letter from Virgin Media are advised to accept the delivery of the new box for security reasons. The new router, known as the Hub 4.0 (ARRIS TG3492LG-VMB), will provide a better experience while ensuring that the Virgin device is safe from cyber threats. As Virgin Media explains, "Customers of broadband ISP Virgin Media (O2), specifically those still using some of the provider’s oldest routers (i.e. Hub 2 AC, Hub 2 and Hub 1), have recently become the latest group to receive a letter inviting them to upgrade to the HUB 4.0 (ARRIS TG3492LG-VMB) ‘at not extra’ cost. This is because the old hardware no longer receives security updates."

The initiative is part of a recent update in the law by the UK Government, which makes ISPs responsible for offering and updating Wi-Fi devices to ensure they are kept safe. The Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure Act (PSTI) and the Telecoms (Security) Act (TSA) are key components of this new regulation. As Julia Lopez, UK Data and Digital Infrastructure Minister, noted at the initial announcement of the law update, "Today marks a new era where consumers can have greater confidence that their smart devices, such as phones and broadband routers, are shielded from cyber threats, and the integrity of personal privacy, data and finances better protected."

Customers who do not receive a letter from Virgin Media can still check if their Wi-Fi router is outdated by verifying whether it is a Hub 1 or a Hub 2. They can also check with Virgin Media to see if their router needs an update. The ISP has long been running various Hub upgrade programmes, often for different reasons, and this is just a continuation of that approach. As reported by Yahoo News, this latest upgrade effort reflects a combination of changes introduced under the PSTI and TSA.

The new router will provide customers with a better experience and enhanced security features. As Virgin Media notes, "The provider has long been running various Hub upgrade programmes, often for different reasons, and this is just a continuation of that approach." Customers who upgrade to the new router can expect to enjoy improved performance and enhanced security.

In an effort to promote online safety, Virgin Media is also working to help parents and guardians keep their kids safe online and protected from scams and fraud. As part of this initiative, the company is offering advice and tips from its Find the Right Words campaign.

For customers who are unsure about their router’s security or would like to check if they are eligible for a free upgrade, it is recommended that they contact Virgin Media directly. With this new initiative, Virgin Media is taking proactive steps to ensure that its customers have a safe and secure online experience.

Customers can find out more about the free upgrade and check if they are eligible by visiting the Yahoo News article or by contacting Virgin Media customer support.

The free upgrade is available to customers with outdated routers, including those with Hub 1 or Hub 2 devices. It is recommended that customers take advantage of this offer to ensure that their online experience is secure and enjoyable.

By upgrading to the new router, customers can enjoy a range of benefits, including improved performance, enhanced security features, and a better overall online experience. With this initiative, Virgin Media is demonstrating its commitment to providing its customers with the best possible service and support.

For more information on the free upgrade and to check eligibility, customers can visit Yahoo News.
