Dhul Hijjah Begins: Eid Al Adha 2025 Dates Announced Globally

Eid Al Adha 2025: Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei Announce Dates

The Islamic world is gearing up to celebrate Eid Al Adha, one of the most significant holidays in the Islamic calendar. Recently, several countries in Southeast Asia have announced the dates for the start of Dhul Hijjah, the month in which Eid Al Adha falls. According to reports from Khaleej Times, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei have confirmed the dates for the start of Dhul Hijjah and subsequently, Eid Al Adha.

Indonesia has announced that it will be marking the start of Dhul Hijjah on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. This means that Eid Al Adha will be celebrated on Friday, June 6, in the Asian country. The Indonesian authorities have confirmed that the moon was sighted on May 28, marking the beginning of the month of Dhul Hijjah. As Khaleej Times reports, the Islamic calendar follows the lunar cycle, and moon sightings determine when Islamic holidays fall in correlation with the Gregorian dates.

Meanwhile, in Malaysia, the authorities have reported that the moon had not been sighted in the country. As a result, Malaysia will be starting the month of Dhul Hijjah on Thursday, May 29, 2025. This means that Eid Al Adha will be celebrated on Saturday, June 7, in Malaysia. Brunei has also followed Malaysia’s announcement, with authorities confirming that the moon was not sighted, and therefore, Dhul Hijjah will start on Thursday, May 29. Consequently, Eid Al Adha will be celebrated on Saturday, June 7, in Brunei.

The determination of Islamic holidays is based on the lunar cycle, which can sometimes lead to variations in dates across different countries. As Khaleej Times notes, the Islamic calendar is a lunisolar calendar, with 12 months in a year, but the months are based on the cycles of the moon. This means that the dates of Islamic holidays can vary from year to year and from one country to another.

The announcement of Eid Al Adha dates in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei is significant, as it marks one of the most important holidays in the Islamic calendar. Eid Al Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorates the willingness of the Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son, Ismail, as an act of obedience to God. The holiday is celebrated with prayers, feasts, and acts of charity.

In conclusion, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei have announced the dates for Eid Al Adha, with Indonesia celebrating on Friday, June 6, and Malaysia and Brunei on Saturday, June 7. The dates are based on the lunar cycle and moon sightings, which determine the start of the month of Dhul Hijjah. As reported by Khaleej Times, the Islamic world is eagerly awaiting the celebrations, which will be marked with great fervor and enthusiasm.
