Liverpool on Brink of £169m Double Deal in Historic Transfer Move

Liverpool Close to Securing Double Deal for Wirtz and Kerkez
Liverpool are on the verge of completing a historic double transfer deal for Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz and Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez, according to reports. The Reds have been active in the summer transfer market, having already secured the signing of Jeremie Frimpong from Leverkusen last week.

The news comes as Liverpool look to build on their success in the Premier League, having won the title under the management of Arne Slot. The club’s early Champions League qualification has given them a significant advantage in the transfer market, as they are able to plan their budget ahead of other Premier League clubs.

According to journalist Rudy Galetti, Liverpool are “taking the last steps” to seal a deal for Kerkez, with the Hungary international set to join for a fee of around €50m (£42m). Galetti wrote on X: “Liverpool are taking the last steps for Milos Kerkez. The deal is almost sealed between Liverpool and Bournemouth for ~€50m plus performance-related bonuses as a final fee. A five-year contract was already agreed upon with the player days ago.”

Meanwhile, German publication Bild claim that Wirtz has already agreed terms on a contract until 2030 with Liverpool, and that it’s just a matter of the two clubs agreeing on a fee. The deal could ultimately amount to a sum between €140m and €150m (£118m-£127m), which would break the Premier League record transfer fee.

The proposed deal for Wirtz would be a historic transfer for Liverpool, and would surpass the current record held by Chelsea’s signing of Enzo Fernandez for £106.8m in January 2023. According to Bild, both Liverpool and Leverkusen want to finalise the transfer as quickly as possible under their desired terms, with Liverpool’s CEO of football, Michael Edwards, having already received approval from the club’s owners in Boston for a fee of €150m (£127m) for Wirtz.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes that the club need to make several signings this summer, including the deals for Frimpong, Wirtz, and Kerkez. Carragher said on The Overlap: “Throughout the season, I was still saying that Liverpool still need five or six players. I think the left-back comes in and plays straight away, Frimpong will fight with Conor Bradley, Wirtz will play when he comes to the club. But I still think we need a centre forward. I think Liverpool will look to get their business done pretty early.”

Carragher also discussed the potential role of Wirtz in the Liverpool team, saying: “Whether Wirtz comes in and plays in Szoboszlai’s role or plays from the left, I don’t know. But the next one is centre forward and I wouldn’t be surprised if once Liverpool get these three [Frimpong, Wirtz, and the left-back] done, the next one will be a centre forward.”

The proposed double deal for Wirtz and Kerkez would be a significant coup for Liverpool, and would mark a statement of intent from the club as they look to build on their success in the Premier League. As reported by Football365, the deals are expected to be completed in the coming days, with Kerkez set to become the second signing of the summer after Frimpong.

Liverpool’s interest in Wirtz and Kerkez has been well-documented, and the club are believed to be keen on strengthening their squad ahead of the new season. With the deals expected to be completed soon, Liverpool fans will be eagerly anticipating the arrival of the two new signings.

As the transfer window continues to heat up, Liverpool are expected to be busy in the coming weeks. With a number of signings already completed, the club are looking to build on their success and push for even greater heights in the Premier League. The proposed deals for Wirtz and Kerkez are just the beginning, and Liverpool fans will be keeping a close eye on the club’s transfer activity in the coming weeks.

The signing of Wirtz and Kerkez would be a significant boost to Liverpool’s squad, and would provide manager Arne Slot with a number of new options ahead of the new season. With the club looking to build on their success, the proposed double deal is a statement of intent from the club.
