====================================================================================
The daughter of legendary musician David Bowie, Lexi Jones, has released her debut album, Xandri, and has taken to social media to address claims that she is copying her famous father’s style.
According to a report from LBC, Lexi, 24, marked the release of her album with an Instagram message to her 220,000 followers, in which she stressed that she is more than just her father’s name. As LBC reported, Lexi wrote: “I’m the daughter of a legend, but I’m more than just his name”. She also emphasised: “I’m not a copy, not a shadow”.
Lexi’s famous roots are not just tied to her father, but also to her mother, supermodel Iman, who is Bowie’s widow. The young singer has previously spoken out about the emotional hardship she faced following her father’s passing in 2016. As LBC previously reported, in an online blog published last year, Lexi wrote about the pain and struggle she experienced after her father’s death.
In her Instagram post, Lexi also wrote about being hindered by her previous lack of self-belief, stating: “Never thought I was good at much. Never thought I was worth it to pursue”. However, she seems to have found her footing in the music industry, with her fans showing their support for her debut album. One user commented: “Keep being you, Lexi. Your music is great. It’s original”. Another user wrote: “I found you because of him, but I stayed because of YOU”.
The comment section of Lexi’s Instagram post was also flooded with messages of support from fellow offspring of famous musicians. Violet Grohl, 18, the daughter of Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, left a sweet tribute, calling Lexi’s post ‘beautiful’. Lucas Jagger, 25, the son of Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger, wrote simply ‘amazing’.
Lexi’s album, Xandri, is a significant milestone in her music career, and her decision to speak out about the challenges she has faced is likely to resonate with many of her fans. As LBC reported, in her heartfelt poem, Lexi stressed that she is trying to pave her own way rather than follow in her father’s footsteps. She wrote: “They see the blood, they hear the sound, yet fail to see me, don’t feel the same. They compare me to his heights, like I’m supposed to reach his light. But I’m not here to chase what’s already been done. By loving what I do, I feel I’ve already won”.
The release of Lexi’s debut album and her powerful message on social media have sparked a significant reaction from fans and fellow musicians alike. As the daughter of two musical legends, Lexi Jones is certainly one to watch in the music industry.
