“Snowfall” Spinoff Gains New Talent: 3 Actors On Board

FX’s Snowfall Spinoff Pilot Adds Three New Series Regulars

In a significant development, FX’s "Snowfall" spinoff pilot has added three new series regulars to its cast, according to a report by Variety. Asante Blackk, Peyton Alex Smith, and Simmie Sims III have joined the pilot, alongside previously announced leads Gail Bean and Isaiah John, who will be reprising their roles from the original "Snowfall" series.

The "Snowfall" spinoff pilot, which was exclusively reported on by Variety in March, is set in 1990s Los Angeles, soon after the end of the original series. The official logline for the pilot states, "a recovering addict (Bean) strives to take West Coast rap mainstream despite potential infighting from a harrowing gang war." While exact character details for the new cast members are being kept under wraps, Variety has revealed that they will be playing key roles in the pilot.

Asante Blackk, who is best known for his role in the critically-acclaimed Ava DuVernay limited series "When They See Us" at Netflix, for which he earned an Emmy nomination for best supporting actor in a limited series or movie, is one of the new additions to the cast. He has also appeared in popular TV shows such as "This Is Us" and will next be seen in "Euphoria" Season 3 at HBO. Blackk has also starred in films like "Story Ave" and "Landscape with Invisible Hand." According to Variety, Blackk is repped by Gersh, M88, The Lede Company, and Del Shaw Moonves Tanaka.

Peyton Alex Smith, who previously starred in two other spinoffs, "All American: Homecoming" and "Legacies" at The CW, has also joined the cast. He has also appeared in "BMF" at Starz and in the BET series "The Quad." In film, he was a cast member in Kathryn Bigelow’s "Detroit." Variety reports that Smith is repped by Innovative Artists Entertainment, Authentic Talent and Literary Management, and Goodman Genow.

Simmie Sims III, who performs under the name Buddy, is the third new addition to the cast. He was discovered by music executive Scott Vener and later signed by Pharrell Williams. Sims has collaborated with artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Nipsey Hussle, Chance the Rapper, and Miley Cyrus. His debut album "Harlan & Alondra" was released in 2018. As an actor, Sims has appeared on shows such as "Rap Sh!t" at Max and "Bel-Air" at Peacock. According to Variety, Sims is repped by Wrenn Management.

The "Snowfall" spinoff pilot will be written and executive produced by Malcolm Spellman, with "Snowfall" alums Dave Andron, Thomas Schlamme, Julie DeJoie, Michael London, and Trevor Engelson all executive producing as well. FX Productions is the studio behind the pilot. The original "Snowfall" series, created by the late John Singleton, Eric Amadio, and Andron, explored the crack cocaine epidemic in South Central LA through the perspective of different characters. The highly-popular show aired for six seasons on FX between 2017 and 2023. With the addition of these three new series regulars, the "Snowfall" spinoff pilot is shaping up to be an exciting and highly-anticipated project.
