McDonald Opens Up: ‘Dodged a Bullet with James Martin’

Jane McDonald Reveals Hilarious Encounter with James Martin

A recent episode of the White Wine Question Time podcast has shed light on a comical exchange between TV chef James Martin and his fellow celebrity, Jane McDonald. According to an unearthed clip from Loose Women’s Denise Welch, James once met Jane outside a house, but she had no idea who he was. In fact, she mistook him for the concierge or butler, a position to which she was accustomed.

As reported by Devon Live, Denise recounted the story on the podcast, revealing that Jane had handed James several bags, which he politely took up many stairs, only for Jane to ask him why he had left some behind. The story was shared by Denise Welch on the White Wine Question Time podcast, and Devon Live has the full story.

In response to the anecdote, Jane McDonald laughed it off, saying "That’s terrible, isn’t it? I gave him a good tip. I did and I know…the funny thing is I’m really good mates with James now. And it’s lovely that he has that story to tell, and he makes the best cakes ever." She added that she appreciates James’ baking skills, particularly his use of "proper calories" and fresh cream in his cakes.

According to Devon Live, Jane also joked that it’s a good thing she and James never got together, as she would have ended up "the size of Wakefield". The two have remained friends, with James even sharing some of his famous cakes with Jane. James Martin is a well-known TV chef, having appeared on shows such as Saturday Kitchen, Islands to Highlands, Home Comforts, and James Martin’s Great British Adventure.

In other news, Jane recently hosted the British Soap Awards, where she admitted to flirting "outrageously" with Coronation Street star Kit Green. In an episode of ITV’s Lorraine, Jane revealed that she was "starstruck" by Kit’s charm and even asked him if he owned handcuffs, although he didn’t respond. She also praised Emmerdale’s Jeff Hordley, who plays Cain Dingle, as the "nicest man".

As Devon Live reported, Jane expressed her regret that Steve McFadden (Phil Mitchell) couldn’t attend the ceremony. The British Soap Awards 2025 will air on Thursday, 5 June, at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX. With her charming personality and witty sense of humour, Jane McDonald has won over fans in the entertainment industry, including her friend James Martin.

The story of Jane’s encounter with James Martin was first shared on the White Wine Question Time podcast, and Devon Live has been reporting on the story, providing fans with a hilarious account of the exchange between the two celebrities.
