Sinner sorprende, Djokovic ko: 6-4, 7-5 al Roland Garros

Italian Tennis Stars Shine at Roland Garros

The Italian contingent at Roland Garros has made a significant impact, with several players progressing to the next round of the tournament. According to a report by Rai News, 24-year-old Italian tennis player, Lucia Bronzetti’s compatriot, and fellow Italian, Elisabetta Cocciaretto, is set to face Ekaterina Alexandrova in the next round.

Cocciaretto, ranked 89th in the world, has had a convincing start to the tournament, defeating American lucky loser, Townsend, ranked 104th in the world. She will now face Alexandrova, the 20th seed, who defeated Bronzetti in her opening match. Alexandrova has a strong record at Roland Garros, having reached the third round on three previous occasions, including in 2019, 2020, and 2023.

The match between Cocciaretto and Alexandrova will be a closely contested encounter, with neither player having a prior meeting in their careers. Alexandrova has had a successful 2025, winning the title in Linz and reaching the semifinals in Doha. On clay, she has reached the semifinals in Charleston and another tournament.

Cocciaretto’s best result at Roland Garros and in Slams is the round of 16 she reached last year, after beating Brazilian player Haddad Maia, the 13th seed, and Spanish player Bucsa, and Russian player Samsonova, the 17th seed. Her run was eventually halted by American Coco Gauff, the third seed.

The Italian players have been performing well in the tournament so far. As Rai News reports, other Italian players, including Jannik Sinner, Lorenzo Sonego and Marco Cecchinato have also been in action.

In the men’s draw, top seeds, Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz, have also progressed, setting up a potential blockbuster encounter in the next round. The 2025 French Open has seen several upsets and thrilling matches so far, with many of the top seeds facing stiff competition from lower-ranked opponents.

The Italian players have been impressive, with many of them pushing top seeds to the limit. As per Rai News, Errani and Paolini have also secured their spots in the next round, and will look to cause an upset in the upcoming matches. With the tournament heating up, fans can expect more thrilling encounters and surprises in the days to come.
