Impossible Achieves Historic Milestone, Sets Franchise Record

Box Office Update: Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning Sets a Franchise Record

According to a report by Joblo, the early box office results for Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning are shaping up to be a mixed bag. As reported by the entertainment news outlet, the film is on track to end the three-day Memorial Day weekend with approximately $63 million, and potentially much more for the 4-day holiday. This would make it the franchise’s top opening weekend, unadjusted for inflation.

The source, Joblo, notes that this is a significant improvement over Dead Reckoning, which earned a disappointing $54 million in its opening weekend. However, the news is not all good for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, as Disney’s Lilo & Stitch is stealing its thunder. The Disney film is on track for a remarkable $150 million plus weekend, which is a notable achievement considering it was initially intended for Disney+.

Interestingly, Joblo points out that this is not the first time Tom Cruise has faced competition from Lilo & Stitch at the box office. Back in 2002, the original animated film opened opposite Cruise’s collaboration with Steven Spielberg, Minority Report. In that instance, Cruise was able to edge out a win, with both movies opening within a hundred thousand dollars of each other. However, this time around, the gap is much wider and in favour of the Disney film.

In other box office news, Joblo reports that Final Destination: Bloodlines is showing remarkable staying power, with it on track for a $19 million weekend as it closes in on the $100 million mark. The source also notes that Sinners and Thunderbolts are currently duking it out for fourth place, with both likely to gross around $11 million apiece.

Furthermore, Joblo states that A24’s Friendship is faring well as it expands to over 1000 screens, with it likely to gross about $4 million. On the other hand, The Weeknd’s Hurry Up Tomorrow is experiencing a significant decline, plunging 76% to a $790k weekend gross. It remains to be seen whether the film will even finish the weekend in the top ten.

As reported by Joblo, the box office results are a mixed bag, with some films performing well and others struggling. The source notes that they will be back with a full box office roundup tomorrow, providing further insights into the world of cinema.

The box office results, as cited by Joblo, suggest that Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is off to a strong start, setting a franchise record. However, the film still faces stiff competition from other movies, including Lilo & Stitch and Final Destination: Bloodlines.
