Madrid Joins F1 Calendar, Imola Dropped

Formula 1 Unveils 2025 Calendar with New Changes

The highly anticipated 2025 Formula 1 calendar has been released, featuring a number of changes to the schedule. According to the BBC, the new season will get underway in Melbourne, Australia, on 6-8 March, before heading to Bahrain in April, a move that has become the norm in recent years due to the timing of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

The Bahrain Grand Prix, which has become a staple as the second round of the season, will be held a week after the Australian Grand Prix, with the Saudi Arabian race following shortly after. The Chinese and Japanese Grands Prix will be separated by a two-week gap, rather than the one-week gap seen in previous seasons. This change is part of a revised schedule that sees the introduction of new circuits and the return of familiar favourites.

One of the most significant changes to the calendar is the addition of a new event in Madrid, which will host a Grand Prix on a yet-to-be-confirmed date. The Spanish race at Barcelona retains its place on 12-14 June, fulfilling the final year of its existing contract. The traditional Monaco Grand Prix will take place on the first weekend in June, marking the start of a packed European leg of the season. The Azerbaijan event on 25-27 September will kick off the final intercontinental part of the season.

The British Grand Prix is set to take place on 3-5 July, with the Dutch Grand Prix, which has been a popular addition to the calendar in recent years, set to be held for the final time at Zandvoort on 21-23 August. The season will conclude with two groups of three races on consecutive weekends, starting with the US Grand Prix in Austin on 23-25 October, followed by Mexico and Brazil. The final triple-header will see the Las Vegas Grand Prix on 19-21 November, followed by Qatar and Abu Dhabi, which will bring the season to a close on 4-6 December.

As reported by the BBC, the changes to the calendar are in line with F1’s new rules, which see revised engines run on 100% sustainable fuels. This move is part of a broader effort to reduce the sport’s carbon footprint and increase its environmental credentials.

The 2025 Formula 1 calendar promises to be an exciting and action-packed season, with a number of new changes and additions to the schedule. With the season set to get underway in March, fans will be eagerly anticipating the start of a new era in Formula 1. As the BBC notes, every race from Monaco on the first weekend in June to Madrid will take place in Europe, before the Azerbaijan event kicks off the final intercontinental part of the season.

The BBC reports that the 2025 season will mark a significant shift for the sport, with a focus on sustainability and environmental responsibility. The new calendar is a key part of this effort, and fans will be watching with interest to see how the changes play out on the track.
