LFC Chase Barcola, Isak as Transfer Spree Hits £300m

Liverpool FC are reportedly set to make a massive £100m bid for Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, taking their summer spending to over £300m. According to The Sun, the Premier League champions are looking to bolster their attacking lineup with another top-class player, even after agreeing to a British-transfer record £127m deal for Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz.

The Sun reports that Liverpool are prepared to battle Bayern Munich for the 22-year-old Barcola, who has emerged as a shock target for the Reds. The winger, who is valued at £100m, has fallen down the pecking order at PSG and is no longer part of the French club’s first-choice front three. As The Sun notes, Barcola found himself on the bench again for last month’s Champions League final against Inter Milan, coming on in the 67th minute and teeing up Senny Mayulu for the last goal in the 5-0 thrashing.

Liverpool still have hope of signing Alexander Isak from Newcastle United, but The Sun claims that the Toon are holding out for a fee of around £150m for the 25-year-old Sweden international. If Liverpool are unable to agree a deal for Isak, Barcola has emerged as a spectacular Plan B. The Sun understands that the Reds have already spent £29.5m on Wirtz’s Leverkusen team-mate, defender Jeremie Frimpong, 24, with another £40m-plus earmarked for Bournemouth’s 21-year-old left-back Milos Kerkez.

As The Sun reports, the prospect of Barcola teaming up with Wirtz, 22, and Anfield icon Mo Salah, 32, will have fans pinching themselves. The Sun notes that Bayern have made no secret of their intention to test PSG’s resolve to keep Barcola, who they signed from Lyon for £38m in 2023.

Liverpool will look to raise funds by offloading erratic forward Darwin Nunez, 25, and will also consider offers for 28-year-old pair Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota. As The Sun claims, the Reds are willing to spend big to strengthen their squad, with a total outlay of over £300m expected this summer.

In a busy summer transfer window, Liverpool’s pursuit of Barcola and other top-class players has set tongues wagging. As The Sun reports, the Reds are looking to build on their recent success and make a deep run in next season’s Champions League. With the transfer window in full swing, fans will be keeping a close eye on Liverpool’s movements in the coming weeks.
