King’s Birthday Honours: Local Residents Recognised for Outstanding Contributions
The King’s Birthday Honours List, published today, has recognised four local residents from Banbury for their outstanding contributions to their respective fields. The honours, which include OBEs and an MBE, are a testament to the dedication and hard work of these individuals.
According to a report by Banbury FM, Charlotte Charles, from Charlton, has been awarded an MBE for her services to road safety. Ms Charles, who has been tirelessly campaigning for justice and change since the tragic loss of her son, Harry Dunn, in a road accident, said: "From the moment I lost Harry, I knew I had to keep the promise I made to him – to fight for justice, and to make sure his death would lead to change." She added, "I’ve never viewed myself as a campaigner. I’m simply a mum trying to do right by her son. If Harry’s death has meant others now live safer lives, if victims are treated with more compassion, if a few more lives are saved, then I accept this honour for him, and for every person who walked this journey with us."
As reported by Banbury FM, Gareth Stapleton, a resident of Adderbury, has been awarded an OBE for his services to architecture and to project and construction management. Mr Stapleton, a founder and partner of RiSE International, has been recognised for his influential work in the industry, which has had a significant impact on the built environment. In 2023, he was named on the Top 100 Influential People list, with judges praising his professional record, which encompasses architecture, consultancy, entrepreneurship, academia, and authorship.
The Banbury FM report also highlighted Scott from Shennington, who has received an OBE for his work as the co-founder and chair of the Clink Charity. The charity provides opportunities for people in prison to gain new skills and qualifications in catering and horticulture, helping to steer them away from re-offending when they leave prison. This initiative has made a significant contribution to rehabilitation and community safety.
Furthermore, Banbury FM reported that Avis Gallager has been awarded a British Empire Medal for her services to the community in Banbury, in recognition of her role volunteering with the Cornhill Companions.
The King’s Birthday Honours List is a fitting tribute to the outstanding contributions made by these local residents. Their dedication and commitment to their respective causes have made a positive impact on their community, and their recognition serves as an inspiration to others.
