Railway Waiting List: Can Your Ticket Get Confirmed?

Train Ticket Confirmation: A Simple Way to Check Your Chances

Train passengers often face uncertainty when their ticket is in the waiting list. They are left wondering whether to prepare for their journey or not, as the final chart is only made four hours before the train’s departure. This can be particularly challenging for those travelling from far-off locations, who often have to leave early to catch their train. However, a simple calculation can help determine the likelihood of a waiting list ticket being confirmed.

According to a report by the Free Press Journal, passengers can gauge their chances of ticket confirmation by checking their waiting list number. The publication states that on normal days, around 26 percent of waiting tickets get confirmed. This is because approximately 21 percent of passengers with confirmed tickets do not travel and cancel their tickets, while around 5 percent of passengers do not travel after the chart preparation, leaving their seats empty.

The Free Press Journal explains that after a ticket is confirmed, around 21 percent of passengers do not travel, and their tickets are cancelled. Additionally, about 5 percent of passengers do not travel after the chart preparation, and their seats remain empty. This means that around 26 percent of seats become available for passengers with waiting list tickets.

The publication also provides a rough estimate of the chances of confirmation based on the waiting list number. In a Sleeper or Third AC coach, there are 72 seats. On average, 17-18 waiting list tickets per coach get confirmed. This means that on normal days, waiting tickets up to 17-18 have a good chance of getting confirmed, either as RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation) or a full seat.

For long-distance trains, which usually have 22-24 coaches, the chances of confirmation can be calculated by extrapolating this data. After removing the engine and guard coaches, there are around 4 general coaches and 8 Sleeper class coaches. In the Sleeper class, waiting tickets up to 75-80 can get confirmed easily.

The Indian Railways currently prepares the chart four hours before departure, but plans are underway to make it 24 hours before departure. As the Free Press Journal notes, this change may affect the chances of ticket confirmation, but for now, passengers can use this simple calculation to gauge their likelihood of getting a confirmed ticket.

The publication’s report provides valuable insights for train passengers, especially during peak travel seasons when waiting lists can be long. With this information, passengers can make informed decisions about their travel plans and avoid last-minute hassles. As the Free Press Journal states, "You can guess from your waiting number," and with a little calculation, passengers can estimate their chances of ticket confirmation.

The waiting list system can be confusing for many passengers, and the lack of transparency can lead to anxiety and uncertainty. However, by understanding the patterns and trends of ticket cancellations and confirmations, passengers can make educated guesses about their chances of getting a confirmed ticket.

In related news, the Indian Railways has been taking steps to improve its services and provide more convenience to passengers. The proposed change to prepare the chart 24 hours before departure is part of these efforts.

For now, passengers can use the Free Press Journal’s report as a guide to estimate their chances of ticket confirmation. As the publication notes, on normal days, around 26 percent of waiting tickets get confirmed, and passengers can calculate their chances based on their waiting list number.

By providing this information, the Free Press Journal aims to empower passengers with knowledge and help them plan their travel more effectively. With the Indian Railways’ efforts to improve its services, passengers can look forward to a more convenient and hassle-free travel experience.

Passengers are advised to check their waiting list number and calculate their chances of ticket confirmation accordingly. This simple calculation can go a long way in reducing the uncertainty and anxiety associated with waiting list tickets.
