EXCLUSIVE: John Mulaney, Kathryn Hahn and Sienna Miller in Talks to Join Amazon MGM Studios’ Biographical Drama ‘Madden’
In a move that has been widely anticipated, David O. Russell’s biographical drama about legendary coach and broadcaster John Madden is set to welcome another all-star ensemble to its cast. According to sources, John Mulaney, Kathryn Hahn, and Sienna Miller are all in talks to join the film, Madden, for Amazon MGM Studios. This news was first reported by Deadline.
The film, which is set to star Nicolas Cage as the iconic sports figure, and Christian Bale as the late Raiders owner Al Davis, will now also feature Mulaney as Trip Hawkins, the founder of EA Sports and driving force behind the Madden NFL video games. Hahn will play Madden’s wife, Virginia, while Miller will play Davis’ wife, Carol. Russell will direct the film from a script he wrote, following an earlier version by Cambron Clark.
Production on Madden is set to start next month in Atlanta, with Escape Artists’ Todd Black producing. Black will produce through his Escape Artists banner, alongside partners Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch, and Jonathan Shukat, alongside Russell and Matthew Budman. Escape Artists’ David Bloomfield will executive produce. Amazon MGM Studios has declined to comment on the matter.
The biographical drama will explore the unlikely path that took Madden from Super Bowl-winning Oakland Raiders head coach to the brains and brand behind Madden NFL, paving the way for his rise to become arguably the greatest broadcaster the NFL has ever seen. This is a story that has captivated audiences for years, and with this talented cast, it is set to be a compelling and engaging film.
Russell, an Oscar-nominated director, has a history of drawing high-profile talent to his films, and Madden is no exception. For Bale, this marks the fourth time he has worked with Russell, having collaborated on Amsterdam, American Hustle, and The Fighter, which won Bale his first Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. As Deadline notes, Mulaney’s role in the film marks one of his bigger acting roles to date, and will give him the opportunity to show his range as an actor.
Mulaney, who has been on a roll with his hit Netflix talk show Everyone’s Live with John Mulaney, will be joined in the film by Hahn, who has recently appeared in Disney+ and Marvel series Agatha All Along and Apple TV+ series The Studio. Miller, who has worked with top-tier directors including Clint Eastwood and Kevin Costner, will also star in the film. With this talented cast, and Russell at the helm, Madden is set to be a must-see film for sports fans and audiences alike.
As previously reported by Deadline, Mulaney is repped by WME and attorney Isaac Dunham, while Hahn is repped by Gersh and Lighthouse Management and Media, and Miller is repped by WME, United Agents, and LBI Entertainment. With production set to start soon, fans will be eagerly anticipating the release of this highly anticipated biographical drama.
