Wirral Contestant Dubbed ‘Jammy Laura’ by Bradley Walsh
A Wirral contestant on the popular TV quiz show ‘The Chase’ has been dubbed ‘Jammy Laura’ by presenter Bradley Walsh after securing a significant amount of money in the cash-builder round. Laura, 35, a shipping line trade manager from New Brighton, appeared on Tuesday’s (April 15) programme alongside fellow players Rod, Kiera, and Antonio, who were hoping to win big.
According to Wirral Globe, Laura, who is originally from Liverpool, has lived in New Brighton for around eight years. When introduced to the show, she said: "I’m originally from Liverpool, but we moved over about eight years ago to New Brighton." Bradley Walsh responded: "It’s a beautiful part of the world, isn’t it?"
Laura’s line of work involves managing container ships and container lines, where she looks after allocations on vessels and tries to optimise cargo. In her free time, she enjoys following Formula 1, which she uses to switch off from her job. As Wirral Globe reports, Laura said: "I absolutely love it. I’ve been following it for about 20 years. I got into it because I couldn’t find the remote one day and it was on the telly." If she won the money, she would love to attend a Grand Prix "in style" in Canada.
During the show, Laura secured £7,000 in the cash-builder round before facing chaser Jenny Ryan to fight for a place in the Final Chase. However, Bradley Walsh was not impressed with her performance, saying: "Can I be honest I think you’ve fluked a few there. From henceforth you will now be known as Jammy Laura." Chaser Jenny Ryan suggested an alternative nickname, saying: "I’m a fan of an alliteration. Let’s go with lucky Laura."
Despite her impressive performance, Laura’s team, which included Antonio and Kiera, unfortunately left empty-handed after failing to complete the final round. The team managed 12 steps in the last round before the chaser caught them with just 44 seconds remaining.
As reported by Wirral Globe, Laura’s appearance on the show has generated interest in her story, with many viewers taking to social media to discuss her performance. The show, which features contestants competing against a professional quizzer, known as ‘the chaser’, has been a popular programme on British television for many years.
