ABBA Star Björn Ulvaeus Opens Up About Falling in Love with Wife Despite 28-Year Age Gap
In a recent interview with The Times, Björn Ulvaeus, the 79-year-old Swedish musician and member of the iconic band ABBA, shared his thoughts on falling in love with his wife, Christina Sas, who is 28 years his junior. According to People.com, Ulvaeus, who will celebrate his 80th birthday later this month, married Sas, a music industry executive, in September after more than two years of dating.
Ulvaeus revealed that it was “love at first sight” when he met Sas, but he had some initial reservations due to their significant age gap. “Immediately I had severe problems with myself and the age difference,” he said. “When a man or a woman meets someone much younger and falls in love they think, ‘Am I doing the right thing?'” Despite these hesitations, Ulvaeus ultimately chose to follow his heart and pursue a relationship with Sas.
The couple first met in 2021, when Sas helped work on the release of ABBA’s ninth and final album, Voyage. They started dating in the spring of 2022, the same year Ulvaeus divorced his second wife, music journalist Lena Källersjö, after 41 years of marriage. Ulvaeus and Sas tied the knot in Copenhagen, and he announced the union on his Instagram.
Ulvaeus described the experience of falling in love at first sight as a “spectacular” and “fantastic” feeling. “You have to be very open, with your antennas out,” he said. “You have to be adventurous and ready to take a chance.” He added that age is no longer an issue in their relationship, saying, “Age doesn’t come between us now – we rarely even talk about it.”
The legendary songwriter also reflected on his previous marriages, including his 41-year marriage to Källersjö and his earlier marriage to his ABBA groupmate Agnetha Fältskog from 1971 to 1980. He and Fältskog share children Linda, 52, and Peter, 47, and he also has two daughters with Källersjö.
Ulvaeus also discussed the ongoing ABBA Voyage experience, a groundbreaking concert that features AI-created avatars of the group performing their hit songs. The show is currently running in London, with performances scheduled through next January. When asked if the show would continue after one of the original four members of ABBA has passed away, Ulvaeus said it “remains to be seen.” He cited Agatha Christie’s play The Mousetrap, which has been running in London since 1952, as an example of a long-running show that has endured for decades.
As reported by People.com, Ulvaeus said, “We are allowed to stay in our current venue till 2029, but ticket sales might drop, you never know. But is it right to continue when someone is dead? That’s a big ethical question.” He concluded, “Did Agatha Christie have a problem with The Mousetrap? When you’re gone, you’re gone but… my kids might appreciate it.”

However, Ulvaeus seems to have put any doubts to rest, saying that he and Sas are happy together and that age is just a number.
