Buttler’s 97 Leads Gujarat Titans to Victory Over Delhi Capitals

Gujarat Titans Move Top of IPL Table with Seven-Wicket Win over Delhi Capitals

In a thrilling Indian Premier League (IPL) encounter, Gujarat Titans secured a seven-wicket victory over Delhi Capitals, propelling them to the top of the table. The Titans’ chase was powered by an exceptional innings from Jos Buttler, who remained unbeaten on 97 off 54 balls, including 11 fours and four sixes.

According to Sky Sports Cricket, Buttler’s impressive performance was complemented by a 119-run partnership with Sherfane Rutherford for the third wicket, which took Gujarat to 204-3 in 19.2 overs, surpassing Delhi Capitals’ total of 203-8. The partnership was the highest third-wicket stand for Gujarat in IPL history.

Delhi Capitals’ skipper Axar Patel top-scored with 39 off 32 balls, but the team’s total of 203-8 was not enough to restrict Gujarat. The Capitals’ innings was marked by regular wickets, with pacer Prasidh Krishna claiming a four-fer (4-41). Krishna’s spell included the crucial wicket of Lokesh Rahul (28), who was trapped leg-before in the fifth over.

Gujarat’s chase got off to a shaky start, with skipper Shubman Gill (7) being run out with a direct hit from off-spinner Karun Nair. However, Buttler and Sai Sudharsan (36) shared a 60-run partnership for the second wicket, setting the stage for Rutherford’s explosive innings.

Rutherford’s 43 off 69 balls, which included several boundaries, helped Gujarat post a convincing win. As Sky Sports Cricket reported, Rahul Tewatia (11no) smashed a six and a four off two balls from Mitchell Starc (0-49) to seal the win, leaving Buttler stranded at the other end.

The win lifted Gujarat Titans to the top of the IPL table with 10 points, while Delhi Capitals slid down to second, also on 10 points but with a lower run-rate. As the IPL season progresses, Gujarat will look to maintain their momentum, with Buttler’s form being a key factor in their success.
