Channel 5 Secures UK Sublicensing Deal for Fifa Club World Cup

In a significant move for football fans in the UK, Channel 5 has agreed a sublicensing deal with global rights holder DAZN to broadcast 23 matches from the upcoming Fifa Club World Cup. The free-to-air broadcaster will show 15 group games, four last-16 ties, two quarter-finals, one semi-final, and the final, providing extensive coverage of the tournament.

According to a report from the BBC, the deal marks a major coup for Channel 5, which will offer fans a chance to watch some of the world’s top teams in action. The BBC understands that the remaining 40 matches at the expanded 32-team tournament, which takes place in the United States between 15 June and 13 July, will be shown free-to-air on DAZN’s platforms.

The BBC reports that DAZN had secured exclusive rights to broadcast the tournament in a deal said to be worth around 1bn euros (£829m) in December 2024. As part of the agreement, Channel 5 will provide comprehensive coverage of the event, including Premier League sides Chelsea and Manchester City, who are two of 12 European teams involved in the tournament.
