ITV Star Makes Shocking Exit: Presents Big Update After Abruptly Leaving This Morning

Former ITV Boss Martin Frizell to Launch New Podcast on True Crime

Martin Frizell, the former editor of This Morning, has announced that he will be launching a new weekly podcast, This Much Is True Crime, alongside Britain’s leading criminologist, Professor David Wilson. The podcast, which is set to explore some of the biggest crimes ever committed, will see Martin and Professor Wilson delving into the world of true crime.

According to a post on Martin’s Instagram Stories, the podcast will cover a range of topics, from serial killers to high-profile crimes. "Takes a prolific serial killer to knock Adolescence off the No1 Netflix spot," he wrote. "Gone Girls profiles America’s modern day Jack the Ripper and his body count may not be over yet! Coming soon is This Much is True Crime, a new weekly podcast with Britain’s leading criminologist (and serial killer expert) Prof David Wilson and me (Fred West and many other crime reports)." Martin also hinted that the podcast would not just focus on the "whodunnit" but also the "whydunnit", suggesting that the duo will be delving deeper into the motivations behind some of the most heinous crimes.

The announcement comes after Martin’s departure from This Morning earlier this year, where he stepped down as editor to care for his wife, Fiona Phillips, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2022. Martin had been at the helm of the show for over a decade and had announced his departure in November, stating that he needed to free up time to care for his family. "Next year I’m expecting my family priorities to change so I need to free up time for them," he said in a statement at the time. "I love my team at ITV and will miss them and the thrill of live telly but it’s an always on, 24 hours a day, seven days a week commitment and I won’t be able to do both."

Martin will be joined on the podcast by Professor David Wilson, a renowned criminologist and expert on serial killers. The duo will explore some of the most high-profile crimes in recent history, providing analysis and insight into the minds of some of the most notorious criminals. While Martin did not provide an official release date for the podcast, he did confirm that it would be launching soon.

The news of Martin’s new podcast has been met with excitement from fans of true crime stories. With his extensive experience in broadcasting and Professor Wilson’s expertise in criminology, the podcast is set to provide a unique and fascinating look into the world of crime. As Martin wrote on his Instagram, "If it’s in the headlines or the ratings, we’re talking about it. We start with Gone Girls. Not just a whodunnit but a whydunnit?"

Martin’s decision to launch a podcast on true crime comes at a time when the genre is experiencing a surge in popularity. With the success of shows like Dateline and Crimewatch, it’s clear that audiences are hungry for stories about real-life crimes. Martin’s new podcast, which will feature him and Professor Wilson discussing some of the most high-profile crimes, is set to capitalise on this trend. As Martin confirmed on his Instagram Stories, he will be discussing a range of topics, from Gone Girls to modern-day serial killers.

The podcast is set to be a significant addition to the true crime genre, with Martin bringing his extensive experience in broadcasting to the table and Professor Wilson providing his expertise as a leading criminologist. With its imminent launch, fans of true crime stories will be eagerly anticipating the release of This Much Is True Crime.

Martin is not new to the world of broadcasting, having worked at ITV for many years, including his time as editor of This Morning. His wife, Fiona Phillips, has been open about her diagnosis with Alzheimer’s, and Martin’s decision to step down from his role at ITV was to care for her. As reported by The Times, Martin’s wife was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2022, and he stated that he wanted to prioritise his family commitments.

The new podcast will see Martin and Professor Wilson discussing some of the most shocking crimes in recent history. The first episode is expected to focus on the case of Gone Girl, which has been described as a modern-day Jack the Ripper case.

Martin’s return to broadcasting comes after a period of change for him, having stepped down from his role at This Morning to care for his wife. His new podcast is set to provide a fresh perspective on true crime stories and will undoubtedly attract a large following.
