Matthew McConaughey and Family Shine at Red Carpet Event in Austin
The McConaughey family recently made a rare red carpet appearance together at the 13th annual Mack, Jack & McConaughey Gala in Austin, Texas. Matthew McConaughey, 55, and his wife Camila Alves McConaughey, 42, attended the event with their three children: Levi, 16, Vida, 15, and Livingston, 12.
According to a report from People.com, the family posed for photos at the event, which was held on April 24 at ACL Live in Austin. This marks the first time that the entire family has graced a red carpet together since April 2024, when they attended the same fundraising event [1].
The family showed off their impeccable sense of style, with Camila opting for a black and white high-low dress with a bold floral pattern on it. Meanwhile, her daughter Vida selected a sleeveless white dress, which matched her dad’s suit. Both Camila and Vida wore their hair down, with Vida’s hair in natural waves and her mom’s hair in a sleeker style.
Levi and Livingston kept it classic in black suits, with Levi adding a touch of personality with a T-shirt underneath instead of a more formal button-down shirt. The family’s oldest son, Levi, is already following in his dad’s acting footsteps. In September 2024, it was revealed that Levi would make his acting debut alongside Chris Pratt in "Way of the Warrior Kid," based on the book by Jocko Willink [2].
In his first red carpet interview, while attending the premiere of his dad’s new film "The Rivals of Amziah King" at SXSW Film Festival, Levi shared some advice he got from his Hollywood veteran father. "I mean, he gave me a lot of advice, and he was able to mentor me in a couple different ways," Levi exclusively told People.com. "But I’d say the main thing for acting, and pardon my French, is no bulls— in your bones and own what you’re doing and make a choice regardless if that ends up being the right one or the wrong one — commit to it and know what you’re saying" [3].
Matthew also revealed some of the advice that he shared with his son: "It’s one, you’ve got a natural ability. Two, how do we get specific about knowing where you’re coming from and where you’re going? Best acting for my money is when an actor’s caught in action, doing something. Meaning, where were you before, and where are you going after, if the camera is rolling the whole time. So you come into the scene, so the scene doesn’t feel like a fresh start and a fresh ending."
The McConaughey family is known for their close bond, and it’s clear that they prioritize spending time together. Matthew and Camila recently celebrated their only daughter’s 15th birthday with special tributes on social media. Taking to Instagram, Matthew described Vida as his "tech guru," saying that she was "so savvy." He also praised her "for loving to grow things" [4].
Camila wrote in her own birthday tribute, "We love you so much words can not express. Yesterday this force of a girl turned 15! May you never forget that the first person to love is YOU…. Your name says it all…Vida!" The mother-daughter duo is truly a fashionable pair, and they showed that off in matching red looks while attending a Hermès Birkin event in New York City on June 7, 2024.
As a parent, Matthew has said that having kids has helped him become a better artist and a better actor. In 2024, he told People.com that he became "a better storyteller because I have kids, meaning, I come home from work on something like ‘True Detective,’ and my 4-year-old kid goes, ‘What’d you do today?’ I cannot tell them what the show’s really about, it’s not age-appropriate. So I have to go into a parable for them" [5].
The McConaughey family has a long history of supporting charitable causes, and the Mack, Jack & McConaughey Gala is just one example of their philanthropic efforts. Matthew founded the organization alongside football coach Mack Brown and country musician Jack Ingram, who both also attended the event. The gala is part of a two-day event, which "promises another year of extraordinary entertainment with an opportunity for you to take part in a most memorable occasion benefiting charitable organizations serving our youth," according to the organization’s website [6].
