Corley’s Corner: Dartford’s Grassroots Football in Focus

Dartford FC’s Grassroots Youth Football Thrives: A Round-up from Darren Corley

As the season draws to a close, Dartford FC’s grassroots youth football teams are going from strength to strength, with several sides still in with a chance of winning silverware. According to Darren Corley, the club’s youth development officer, the Under-16s girls team has already tasted success, winning the Kent Cup a few weeks ago after beating Aylesford on penalties.

"We are really pleased and impressed to see so many sides from our section in finals come the end of the season," Corley told Dartford FC. "The Under-10 Whites are due to play in a cup final on April 26th, and we are really looking forward to that. They have done incredibly well to reach this stage."

In addition to the Under-10 Whites, the Under-9 Blacks and Under-8 Whites are also in cup finals, specifically the Selkent Vase final, which takes place on the same day. Meanwhile, the Under-13 girls team is vying for the Tina Marshall trophy.

Corley expressed his delight at the success of the club’s youth teams, saying: "It’s great to see our youth players mixed in with the first-team for both the Women’s and the Men’s sides." He also highlighted the recent walk-on day event, where a selection of youth teams from Under-7 to Under-18s came to a first-team match and walked on with the players.

The club is also providing opportunities for its younger players to gain experience with the first-team. For example, some of the JPL Under-13s girls have been invited to train with the DFC Women’s first-team, with one player, Scarlet, even warming up with them.

Looking ahead, Corley revealed that the club has several trials and events lined up, including the Kent Youth League trials and JPL girl trials for the 13s and 14s. He also mentioned that some of the Under-16 boys have been offered places with Ben in the Academy, which is a testament to the club’s commitment to developing young talent.

"It’s great to see there is a pathway for them and the club working together to get the best for everyone," Corley said. "We are all rooting for the sides in their bid for promotion and cup finals."

In conclusion, Dartford FC’s grassroots youth football teams are thriving, with several sides still in with a chance of winning silverware. The club’s commitment to developing young talent and providing opportunities for players to gain experience with the first-team is clear, and it will be exciting to see how the teams perform in the coming months.
