The letters, which appear to be targeting homeowners in the area, have been reported to the authorities, with police urging residents to be vigilant.

According to the Lancashire Telegraph, one resident received a letter that appeared to be from a neighbourhood disputes team regarding the parking of vehicles. The letter caused a significant amount of stress and worry for the recipient, who was unsure about the authenticity of the correspondence.

A police spokesperson told the Lancashire Telegraph: "We have been approached this week in regards to parking in the area. Naturally, in highly built-up streets with terraced housing, there is often an issue around parking. We encourage all residents to park sensibly with responsibility and thoughts for your neighbours too."

The police spokesperson went on to explain that the bogus letter was likely a hoax, and that residents should be cautious when receiving unsolicited correspondence. "If you are unsure about such information coming to you, please contact the authority you believe it may be from to double-check the information," they advised. "In this specific case, we believe it to be a hoax, and there is nothing to be worried about."

The incident has highlighted the need for residents to be aware of potential scams and bogus correspondence. The Lancashire Telegraph reports that police will be increasing their presence in the area, with teams out and about speaking to residents and addressing any concerns they may have.

In a statement, the police spokesperson reassured residents that they take incidents like this seriously and are committed to keeping the community safe. "In the weeks going forward, our teams will be out and about, and please feel free to come and speak to us," they said. The Lancashire Telegraph will continue to provide updates on this story as more information becomes available.
