2025 Spanish MotoGP: Alex Marquez Claims Debut MotoGP Win at Jerez
In a thrilling display of skill and determination, Alex Marquez secured his first MotoGP victory at the 2025 Spanish Grand Prix, held at the iconic Jerez circuit. The Gresini Ducati rider crossed the finish line 1.561 seconds ahead of Fabio Quartararo, who claimed his first podium finish with Yamaha since 2023.
According to the official results from Crash.net, Alex Marquez’s winning time was 40m 56.374s, marking Ducati’s 22nd consecutive premier-class victory and equalling the record set by Honda in 1997-87. The Spanish rider’s triumph also marked Spain’s 200th victory in the premier class.
The race got off to a chaotic start, with Quartararo converting pole position into the lead, while Francesco Bagnaia jumped ahead of his team-mate Marc Marquez for second. However, Marc Marquez’s hopes of a strong finish were dashed when he lost the front at Turn 8 on lap 4, rejoining 22 seconds down. Despite riding a damaged bike, Marquez showed incredible resilience, carving through the field to finish 12th.
As reported by Crash.net, Alex Marquez’s victory was not without its challenges. He overtook Bagnaia for second, then outbraked Quartararo for the lead at Turn 1 on lap 11 of 25. From there, he edged away, while Quartararo held off a determined Bagnaia, who in turn came under pressure from KTM’s Maverick Vinales.
The top five finishers included VR46 Ducati’s Fabio Di Giannantonio, who secured a lonely fifth place, while Brad Binder and Pedro Acosta rounded out the top seven with their KTM bikes. Augusto Fernandez, Yamaha test rider, made his MotoGP debut as a wild-card with HRC, but was ultimately classified 16th after a difficult ride.
In other news, Aleix Espargaro, who made his Honda MotoGP debut as a wild-card this weekend, was put under investigation for low tyre pressure after crossing the line in 14th. The incident resulted in a 16-second penalty, dropping him to 17th place.
The first official in-season MotoGP test of the 2025 season takes place at Jerez on Monday, providing teams with an opportunity to fine-tune their bikes and prepare for the next round.
As Crash.net reports, the 2025 Spanish Grand Prix was marked by a series of incidents, including crashes for Fermin Aldeguer, Franco Morbidelli, and Joan Mir, while Jack Miller suffered a technical issue and Somkiat Chantra retired with arm pump.
