“Greyhound” Sequel Gains Steam, Set to Film in January ’26

Tom Hanks’ Greyhound Sequel Set to Start Filming in Australia in January 2026

A sequel to Tom Hanks’ World War II action film, Greyhound, is set to begin filming in Sydney, Australia in January 2026, according to a report from Deadline. The news was announced exclusively by the entertainment publication, which revealed that Hanks will reprise his role as Captain Krause and has also penned the script for the sequel.

The original Greyhound film, released in 2020, received critical acclaim for its portrayal of a U.S. Navy commander who leads an Allied convoy being stalked by a German submarine wolf pack during World War II. The film was based on the 1955 novel The Good Shepherd and also starred Rob Morgan and Elisabeth Shue. As reported by Deadline, the sequel will follow Krause and the Greyhound crew as they help turn the tide of the war, taking them from the beaches of Normandy to the ocean in the Pacific.

According to Deadline, talks are currently underway with key cast members from the first film to reprise their roles, including Stephen Graham, who recently received rave reviews for his performance in the Netflix hit Adolescence. While deals have not yet been finalized, it is expected that the main players will return for the sequel. Director Aaron Schneider and producer Gary Goetzman will also return for the sequel, which is being produced by Playtone, the production company founded by Hanks and Goetzman.

The sequel is the latest collaboration between Hanks and Goetzman’s Playtone and Apple Original. The partners previously teamed up with Amblin on the WWII series Masters of the Air. As noted by Deadline, the original Greyhound film was inspired by events during the Battle of the Atlantic, which took place in the earliest months of America’s alliance with Great Britain and the Allied Forces against Nazi Germany and its allies.

The production team for the sequel declined to comment on the project, but Deadline reports that the film is expected to begin filming in January 2026 in Sydney, Australia. With Hanks set to reprise his role as Captain Krause and the script penned by the actor himself, fans of the original film are eagerly anticipating the sequel.

As the entertainment industry continues to evolve, it is clear that sequels and franchises are becoming increasingly popular. With the success of films like Greyhound, it is no surprise that studios are looking to revisit and expand on successful stories. As reported by Deadline, the sequel to Greyhound is sure to be a highly anticipated release, and fans of Tom Hanks and World War II dramas will be eagerly awaiting its release.
