Bayern Munich Eyeing Jonathan Tah as Centre-Back Option
Bayern Munich are reportedly interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen defender and Germany international Jonathan Tah, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The Bavarians are said to be closely monitoring Tah’s situation, with the defender still on their list of potential targets.
In a statement captured by Bavarian Football Works, Romano said: "Bayern maintain an interest in Jonathan Tah. The German international is still on Bayern’s list and they’re closely monitoring his situation. Tah has no agreement with Barcelona, but Barça are also still there."
This is not the first time Bayern Munich have been linked with Tah, with the two parties reportedly holding talks in the summer of 2024. However, things became complicated and strained the relationship between Tah, Bayern Munich, and Bayer Leverkusen. With Tah set to become a free agent this summer, talks may be easier to facilitate.
Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg has also revealed that Bayern Munich have been seriously looking into signing Tah over the past 1-2 weeks. Plettenberg, as reported by Bavarian Football Works, stated: "Bayern have been seriously looking into Jonathan Tah again over the past 1-2 weeks and are aware that he has not yet signed with Barcelona. Dean Huijsen is also high on the list. But in order to sign a centre-back for a high fee, a sale would currently be necessary (Kim Min-jae for example). Bayern have other centre-backs on their shortlist."
The potential signing of Tah comes as Bayern Munich prepare for the departure of Eric Dier, who will be leaving the club at the end of the season. The Bavarians are looking to strengthen their centre-back options, with Dayot Upamecano, Kim Min-jae, and Josip Stanišić currently part of the squad.
It’s worth noting that Tah is not the only centre-back on Bayern Munich’s radar, with other targets also being considered. However, the interest in Tah is significant, and Bavarian Football Works will continue to provide updates on this developing story.
