Garcia’s Suspension Lifted, Romero Fight Back On

Ryan Garcia’s Suspension Lifted, Cleared to Fight Rolando Romero
====================================================================================

In a significant development in the world of boxing, Ryan Garcia has been officially cleared to fight Rolando “Rolly” Romero on May 2, after the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) lifted his suspension. According to a statement provided to ESPN, the suspension was lifted as all conditions of the Consent Order have been met.

The suspension was initially imposed following Garcia’s failed drug test after his decision win over Devin Haney in April 2024. The test revealed the presence of the banned substance Ostarine in samples collected by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA). As a result, Garcia’s victory was overturned to a no contest, and he was suspended from competition for one year, fined $10,000, and forced to forfeit his entire purse from the Haney fight.

As reported by ESPN, Garcia, 26, has spent the past year carrying out the conditions of the suspension, including submitting to randomized drug tests. With his suspension now lifted, Garcia is set to headline the May 2 card against Romero in Times Square. Meanwhile, Haney will compete in the co-main event against Jose Ramirez Jr., with the expectation that a rematch between Garcia and Haney will take place later this year if both win their respective fights.

The news comes as a significant boost to Garcia’s career, which has been on hold due to the suspension. According to ESPN, a NYSAC spokesperson confirmed that “The suspension has been lifted as all conditions of the Consent Order have been met.” This development paves the way for Garcia to return to the ring and face Romero, a formidable opponent.

Garcia’s return to boxing has been highly anticipated, and his fight against Romero is expected to be a closely contested bout. As reported by ESPN, Haney filed a civil lawsuit against Garcia and received an undisclosed portion of Garcia’s purse from the original fight. With both fighters looking to make a statement, the stage is set for an exciting matchup.

In a statement to ESPN, a spokesperson for the NYSAC confirmed that all conditions of the Consent Order have been met, allowing Garcia to return to competition. With his suspension lifted, Garcia can now focus on his upcoming fight against Romero, and potentially set up a rematch against Haney later in the year.

The lifting of Garcia’s suspension marks a significant development in the world of boxing, and ESPN will continue to provide updates on the story as more information becomes available. For now, fans can look forward to Garcia’s return to the ring on May 2, as he faces off against Romero in a highly anticipated bout.
