Scotland Sizzles: Thousands Flock to Outdoors as Heatwave Intensifies

Scotland Sizzles in Soaring Temperatures

A warm and sunny spell has gripped Scotland, with temperatures soaring to as high as 23C in some areas. According to reports from The Scottish Sun, Scots flocked to parks and beaches across the country to make the most of the pleasant weather.

The country enjoyed long bright spells yesterday and today, with forecasters predicting another 15 hours of sunshine tomorrow. The Scottish Sun reported that families were seen topping up their tans at Portobello Beach in Edinburgh, while youngsters cooled off with a dip in the sea.

Others chose to relax at The Meadows in Edinburgh or Glasgow’s Botanic Gardens, where many were seen sunbathing. Amey Kate, bar manager of The Esplanade in Portobello, told The Scottish Sun: "In Scotland we don’t really get a chance to see that much sun, so once the sun comes out everybody comes out. We have been busy since this morning, and people have been drinking quite a lot which is good for business."

The warm weather is set to continue, with Aberdeen tipped to become the hottest place in Scotland tomorrow, eclipsing 2025’s highest temperature so far, the 22.7C seen at Aboyne in Aberdeenshire on April 10. The Scottish Sun quoted Met Office Chief Meteorologist Jason Kelly as saying: "Thursday looks set to be the warmest day of the week, with temperatures climbing notably above the seasonal average. Overnight temperatures will also be very high in places. It’s possible national and station records for daytime and overnight temperatures may be broken."

The Met Office has forecast that temperatures in Glasgow are expected to touch 24C tomorrow, while the Borders town of Kelso may see 23C. The Scottish Sun reported that forecaster Alex Deakin of the Met Office said: "It is pretty warm and it’s only going to get warmer as we go through the next few days. Warm nights are likely later this week. It’s another fine and sunny day again on Wednesday. Temperatures, come the afternoon, will be higher than Tuesday’s values, with 27C possible in the capital but many areas will be over 20C."

As the country ends the spring month on a high, families may wish to dust off the barbecue before temperatures take a dip on Thursday. The Scottish Sun noted that April got off to a flying start, with sunshine appearing right on cue on April 1.

The warm weather has brought a welcome boost to businesses, with The Scottish Sun reporting that people have been ordering beer and cocktails at The Esplanade in Portobello. One beachgoer told the publication: "I’m lucky I’m not working this week so I’m probably going to be out in the sea with my paddleboard. It’s completely flat, there’s never no breeze here."

In related news, The Scottish Sun reported that another record could fall if April’s sunshine total outshines the current record holder from 2021. The Met Office say we need 27.1 hours of sunshine over the final three days of the month if we are to match the 124.5 hours seen during April four years ago.
