Northern Ireland Records Second Consecutive Hottest Day of the Year
According to the Belfast Telegraph, Northern Ireland experienced its second consecutive hottest day of the year on Wednesday, with temperatures soaring to 23.6C in Castlederg, Co Tyrone. This follows a high of 22C recorded in Derrylin, Co Fermanagh on Tuesday.
The warm weather has brought people out to enjoy the sunshine, with popular spots such as Helen’s Bay in Co Down packed with families cooling off in the sea. The Belfast Telegraph reported that some of the popular spots for families enjoying the mini-heatwave included Helen’s Bay, which was filled with people making the most of the opportunity to get outside and enjoy the sunshine.
The warm weather in Northern Ireland is set to come to an end, however, as a weak weather front will bring cloud and scattered showers to the region on Thursday. The Met Office has warned that temperatures will take a downward trend over the next few days and the bank holiday weekend.
"Temperatures will now take a downward trend over the next few days and the bank holiday weekend," said a spokesperson for the Met Office. "A weak weather front will slip slowly southwards on Thursday leading to a rather cloudy day with a few scattered showers, eventually clearing southeast by the afternoon."
Despite the end of the warm weather, the Met Office has forecast that some brighter spells will follow, with perhaps some late afternoon sunshine. However, with a predominantly north-westerly wind, it will feel cooler than earlier in the week, with highs of 15C expected.
Things will turn chillier into the weekend, leading to some isolated spots of frost for the Bank Holiday. The Met Office has forecast that high pressure will begin to build from the west over the weekend, leading to a mainly settled outlook, though with rather cloudy skies at times.
"A few showers are likely to spread southwards through Saturday, but some brighter breaks are possible as well, especially by Sunday and into Monday," said the Met Office spokesperson. "Temperatures continuing to fall by day, with highs between 12-14C over the weekend."
Met Office meteorologist Alex Deakin said that there is a general change on the way. "The pressure will generally remain high through the next week or so but the temperatures not so much," he said. "We are going to see quite a change as we go through the weekend. We will see a shift in the position of the high over the next few days and the one out west will become more dominant."
The warm weather has also been experienced in the Republic, where temperatures climbed to 25C across the country, with 25.8C at Athenry, Co Galway, matching the highest temperature ever recorded in Ireland in April.
In related news, people have been enjoying the sunny weather at various spots across Northern Ireland, including Belfast City Hall and Helen’s Bay beach. The Belfast Telegraph reported that people made the most of the opportunity to get outside and enjoy the sunshine, with many taking to social media to share their photos and experiences.
The Met Office has warned that the cooler conditions will spread south through Wednesday night into Thursday across the north, and it’s not really until the weekend that the warmth disappears.
As Northern Ireland prepares for the Bank Holiday, residents are advised to make the most of the remaining warm weather and to be prepared for the change in conditions.
The UK and Ireland have been basking in sunshine this week as the spell of dry and sunny weather set in, but according to the Met Office, that is set to change towards the end of the week.
As the weather changes, people across Northern Ireland are being advised to prepare for a rather cloudy day with a few scattered showers.
The Belfast Telegraph will continue to provide updates on the weather as the situation develops.
For now, people are making the most of the sunny weather, with many enjoying a great sunny day at Belfast City Hall and Helen’s Bay beach.
