He had not potted a ball, but once that went in, he dishes up and [that] is why he is the best player we have ever seen."
O’Sullivan himself was modest about the shot, saying that he had no other option but to take on the pot. "It was a good pot, but I did not have any other shot," he said. "The only red I could leave was the one I went for. The yellow was awkward so I knew if I potted the red I could get the yellow out of the way, so there was value in it."
Despite the impressive victory, O’Sullivan acknowledged that he has been struggling with his form throughout the tournament. "I butchered so many shots," he said. "I’ve butchered so many shots in this tournament, it’s scary. I’ve probably butchered more shots in this tournament than I have in years and years of playing. It is what it is and I’ve got to keep going."
O’Sullivan will face Zhao Xintong in the semi-finals, and he knows that he will have to maintain his composure to succeed. "I am playing with zero confidence, but you have got to keep grinding it out," he said. "You can either cave in or keep punching away and hope something comes good. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn’t."
The seven-time World Champion also emphasised the importance of attitude at the World Championship. "I think it [attitude] is everything at this tournament," he said. "It is such a long tournament so you have to try and stay balanced all the way through."
