Sabrina Carpenter, Quinta Brunson to Kick Off SNL with ‘Height’ Duet

Quinta Brunson and Sabrina Carpenter Celebrate Being Short in SNL Opening Monologue

In a fun and energetic opening monologue, Saturday Night Live host and creator Quinta Brunson, star of hit TV show "Abbott Elementary", took to the stage to sing about the joys of being short. According to a report from Variety, Brunson, who is short herself, was joined by singer Sabrina Carpenter in a musical number that poked fun at the perks and challenges of being petite.

As reported by Variety, Brunson kicked off the monologue by shouting out to "shorties" in the audience, highlighting the benefits of being short, such as getting "wasted on one glass of wine" and being able to wear crop tops as dresses. The Variety article noted that Brunson was flanked by dancers as she sang and danced her way through the monologue.

The Variety report stated that Brunson’s next verse saw her shout out some of Hollywood’s shortest and highest-achieving celebrities, including 4’8" Olympian Simone Biles, 5’7" actor Tom Holland, and 5’5" Kendrick Lamar. Carpenter joined in on the fun, joking about their mutual experiences being short, saying "When you eat short rib, does it just taste like rib? When you read short stories, are they just novels?" as quoted in the Variety article.

The Variety article also mentioned that Brunson and Carpenter continued the celebrity shoutouts with a reference to "The Bear" star Jeremy Allen White (who’s 5’7") and ended the number agreeing that life is "just more fun when you’re fun-sized." The musical guest for Brunson’s second SNL episode was "Beautiful Things" singer Benson Boone, who made headlines with his breakout performance at Coachella last weekend, as per the Variety report.

Interestingly, Boone and Carpenter were both nominated for Best New Artist at the 2025 Grammys, though the award ended up going to Chappell Roan, as noted in the Variety article. The Variety report also included a video of the monologue, which can be viewed below.

The Variety article provided insight into the lighthearted and entertaining opening monologue of Saturday Night Live, showcasing the comedic talents of Quinta Brunson and Sabrina Carpenter. As reported by Variety, the monologue was a celebration of being short, and it was well-received by the audience.
