Emirates Expands China Network with Fifth Mainland Destination

Emirates to Launch Daily Flights to Hangzhou, China

Emirates, the Middle Eastern carrier, is set to expand its presence in mainland China with the launch of daily flights to Hangzhou, a major technological hub. According to a report by FlightGlobal, the airline plans to commence operations on the Dubai-Hangzhou route on 30 July, subject to government confirmation.

The new service will be operated using Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, configured with 354 seats in three classes, including eight in first-class and 42 in business-class. Adnan Kazim, Emirates’ deputy president, described the expansion as a "pivotal moment" for the airline’s Chinese and East Asian network. "Hangzhou will open doors to new opportunities for our passenger and cargo operations, further strengthening the vital economic and technological exchanges between the Middle East and China," he said, as quoted by FlightGlobal.

Hangzhou, located just 150km from Shanghai, is a significant centre for the technology industry and home to the headquarters of e-commerce giant Alibaba Group. The addition of Hangzhou to Emirates’ network will bring its weekly mainland China flights to 49. The airline already operates to Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou, and with this new service, Emirates will have a fifth mainland Chinese destination.

The expansion is part of Emirates’ global growth strategy, aiming to position the airline as the preferred carrier for travellers linking the world to China’s thriving economic corridors and beyond. As reported by FlightGlobal, Kazim stated, "This expansion is part of our global growth strategy and positions Emirates as the preferred airline when linking the world to the Chinese mainland’s thriving economic corridors and beyond."

Emirates’ entry into the Hangzhou market is expected to boost the airline’s passenger and cargo operations, capitalising on the city’s growing importance as a technological hub. With its extensive network and modern fleet, Emirates is well-positioned to cater to the increasing demand for air travel between the Middle East and China.

The airline’s commitment to expanding its presence in mainland China underscores the growing importance of the Chinese market for international carriers. As the country’s economy continues to grow, airlines are increasingly looking to tap into the vast opportunities presented by China’s burgeoning aviation market. With this new service, Emirates is poised to strengthen its position in the region and further solidify its reputation as a leading global carrier.

The launch of Emirates’ daily flights to Hangzhou is a significant development in the airline’s expansion plans, and as reported by FlightGlobal, the airline is confident that the new service will be a success. With its robust network and commitment to providing high-quality services, Emirates is set to continue its growth trajectory in the region.
