LEGO Unveils Pixar’s Luxo Jr. as Latest Brick-Built Model
In a delightful collaboration, LEGO has teamed up with Pixar to bring fans a buildable model of the beloved character, Luxo Jr. The iconic lamp first made its debut in Pixar’s 1986 short film of the same name and has since become the studio’s cherished mascot, appearing before every movie as it playfully hops in and squashes the ‘I’ in the Pixar logo.
According to Digital Spy, LEGO has now unveiled a brick-built replica of the character, which was voted for by fans for the LEGO Ideas range. The 613-piece set is fully articulated to recreate the character’s bouncing, hopping and rotating movements, and comes with a buildable replica of the colourful ball Luxo Jr plays with in the Oscar-winning short film.
Quoting directly from Digital Spy sources: “Fans can remove two rounded plates from either side of the ball to create a base for Luxo Jr to stand on, as if it is deflating it.” It is further noted that “The ball also opens up to reveal hidden Easter eggs inspired by popular Pixar movies, including Up, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Monsters Inc, Toy Story and Finding Nemo.”
As per the information provided by Digital Spy, the new LEGO set will be available for release on 1 June, but is available to pre-order now for £59.99. This particular LEGO Ideas ǀ Disney Pixar Luxo Jr. set was designed by Toby Brett as part of the LEGO Ideas programme. Once designed, 10,000 people voted for it to be made into the real thing.
Directly quoting Digital Spy, “I’m a huge fan of all the Pixar films, which were a big part of my childhood, and Luxo Jr is the mascot that perfectly sums up my love for these movies,” said Toby. “I spent a lot of time looking at photos of Luxo Jr to make my model as screen-accurate and recognisable as possible.”
