Liverpool Star Mohamed Salah Commits to Anfield Future as Slot Sets Sights on Unprecedented Excellence

Mohamed Salah Commits to Liverpool with New Contract

Liverpool FC has announced that star forward Mohamed Salah has signed a new two-year contract, keeping him at Anfield until 2027. The news brings an end to months of speculation surrounding the Egyptian international’s future.

According to a report by The Guardian, Salah’s new deal was confirmed by the player and club on Friday, with financial details of the agreement remaining undisclosed. The 32-year-old’s previous contract was worth a basic £350,000 per week, with overall earnings of around £1m per week.

Salah, who has scored 243 goals in 392 appearances for Liverpool, is third on the club’s all-time goalscorers’ list behind Ian Rush and Roger Hunt. He has been instrumental in Liverpool’s pursuit of the Premier League title this season and has long been expected to extend his stay at Anfield.

"It’s great to be here another two years," Salah said, as quoted in The Guardian. "So I’m happy to sign a new contract. We have a great team now. Before also we had a great team. But I signed because I think we have a chance to win other trophies and enjoy my football. I had my best years here. I played eight years, hopefully it’s going to be 10. Enjoying my life here, enjoying my football. I had the best years in my career."

Salah credited his relationship with manager Arne Slot as a key factor in his decision to stay at Liverpool. "I think we have a good relationship," he said. "We understand each other on and off the field, which is very important. We have good communication, we discuss almost everything he wants me to improve and he wants from me. And also if I feel there’s something in doubt, I go and speak to him. That’s a great asset to have also as a manager."

Slot praised Liverpool’s hierarchy for securing the services of a world-class player who could have had numerous options as a free agent, including a move to the Saudi Pro League. "I’m part of the process but I don’t deserve the compliments," he said. "First of all, it’s Mo’s choice and his agent’s choice and what he wants. Second of all, the club – FSG [Fenway Sports Group], Richard, Michael Edwards [FSG’s CEO of football] – put in a lot of effort to influence that. Effort mostly means money but not only money. What it might tell you is that it’s not [only] a good season this season but next season as well. Mo is convinced we have a fair chance of being able to do so. Again, that’s positive."

Slot believes Salah’s target for the next two years should be to maintain his remarkable standard of scoring 30 or more goals per season. "We are always trying to achieve a bit more but if you play for Liverpool then you are already close to the maximum of your ability," he said. "So there is not a lot more to come [from Salah]; we are just trying to reach perfection. We will never reach it but we will reach excellence along the way. We brought almost the maximum out of Mo this season. Then it’s about consistency and that is why Mo is at the level he is. His mentality is so strong and it needs to be if you want to stay at the highest level for seven or eight years and perform every three days."

The news of Salah’s new contract comes as Liverpool prepares for the upcoming transfer window. Virgil van Dijk, who is out of contract at the end of the season, is also expected to sign a new deal, with Slot indicating a resolution could be close.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, who will also become a free agent this summer, is expected to join Real Madrid, according to reports. However, Slot remained focused on Salah’s commitment, saying, "First of all, it is that we should be happy that Mo has extended and it should not be talks about other players."

As reported by The Guardian, Salah’s commitment to Liverpool is a significant boost to the club’s ambitions, with Slot reiterating the club’s desire to perform at the highest level. With Salah on board, Liverpool will look to build on their successful season and push for more silverware in the coming years.

Liverpool’s pursuit of excellence is evident in their efforts to retain the services of their star players. With Salah and potentially Van Dijk committing to new deals, the club is demonstrating its ambition to remain competitive at the top of English football. As noted by The Guardian, Salah’s new contract is a significant coup for Liverpool, and a testament to the club’s commitment to success.
