Mason Greenwood Set for Sensational Premier League Return
According to a report from GB News, former Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood could be on the verge of a dramatic return to the Premier League, with at least two clubs reportedly interested in signing the 23-year-old. The Marseille striker, who has netted 19 goals this season, is said to be "pining" for a return to his native north of England.
Sources in France, as cited by GB News, are increasingly convinced that Premier League teams may be weighing up an approach for the talented forward. Greenwood completed a £27million transfer to Marseille last summer, ending his 17-year association with Manchester United. Under former Brighton head coach Roberto De Zerbi, the forward has impressed during his debut campaign in France.
As GB News reports, Greenwood’s last Premier League appearance came in January 2022, before he was arrested and subsequently charged with attempted rape, assault and controlling behaviour. Friends of the player reportedly have differing opinions on whether he feels ready to return to English football. The striker has also switched his international allegiance from England to Jamaica, with the FA confirming the change in March.
Since leaving England, Greenwood has established himself as a family man with partner Harriet Robson, with whom he shares two young daughters. In an Instagram message to her on Mother’s Day, Greenwood wrote: "Being a dad changed everything." After nearly two years abroad, sources suggest the "novelty" has worn off for the "introverted" Greenwood, who misses his family and friends back home.
It is believed, according to GB News, that Greenwood feels the vitriol aimed at him has "died down" and people have moved on, potentially paving the way for a return to the North West. However, significant obstacles remain, with campaigners insisting there can be no redemption following the allegations made against him.
Marseille boss Roberto De Zerbi has described Mason Greenwood as ‘like a son’ and has spoken glowingly of the forward, describing him as a "natural talent" with exceptional potential. "I would especially like to help him be remembered, in this stadium and by these supporters, as one of the greatest players to have played here at the Velodrome," said the Italian coach. Despite occasional tough love, including dropping Greenwood for back-to-back fixtures in March, De Zerbi has at times described the forward as "like a son".
The Saudi Pro League has also been monitoring Greenwood’s progress, whilst Serie A and a return to La Liga have been touted as potential destinations. As GB News notes, it remains to be seen whether Greenwood will make a return to the Premier League, but one thing is certain – his future will be the subject of much speculation in the coming weeks and months.
GB News has also reported that Mason Greenwood has two children with girlfriend Harriet Robson and has established a new life in France. As reported, Marseille has been Greenwood’s home since his transfer from Manchester United. Roberto De Zerbi has been quoted by GB News talking about Greenwood saying he is like a son.
