Leeds United Close In: Dier Transfer Deal Imminent

Leeds United Miss Out on Eric Dier Signing as Defender Agrees Terms with AS Monaco

In a significant development, Leeds United have reportedly missed out on signing former Tottenham defender Eric Dier, who has agreed terms with Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco. According to information obtained from Mot Leeds News, Dier has opted to join AS Monaco on a two-year contract, snubbing Leeds United and several other Premier League clubs interested in securing his services.

The England international, who recently won his first-ever league title with Bayern Munich, was reportedly keen on parting ways with the Bavarian club this summer. Leeds United, along with Crystal Palace, West Ham, Brighton, Fulham, and Brentford, were said to be interested in signing the 31-year-old defender. However, Mot Leeds News sources suggest that Dier has chosen to join AS Monaco instead.

Sky Sports pundit David Prutton had backed Dier to be a decent addition for Leeds United, given his years of experience in the Premier League and valuable experience representing England. "Eric Dier would have been a pretty decent addition for Leeds, given his experience and his ability at that particular level," Prutton said, as quoted by Mot Leeds News. "Hypothetically, it could have been a good signing, as he has played for a big club in the Premier League and has international experience as well."

Despite Dier’s impressive credentials, including 365 Tottenham appearances and 49 England caps, Leeds United are believed to have decided against pursuing the defender. According to Mot Leeds News, the Whites will instead focus on signing a younger player in their prime, ideally aged 24-28, to ensure long-term defensive solidity.

The signing of a younger player would align with Daniel Farke’s squad-building strategy for Premier League survival. Leeds United, who recently secured promotion to the Premier League following their Championship title win, are expected to bolster their defence with a prime-age signing who can offer athleticism, adaptability, and resale potential.

Dier’s decision to join AS Monaco comes after Bayern Munich offered him a one-year deal, which he rejected. The German club were keen on retaining his services, but ultimately failed to secure a deal. Mot Leeds News reports that Dier has agreed terms with AS Monaco on a two-year contract, marking a significant coup for the Ligue 1 outfit.

In conclusion, Leeds United’s pursuit of Eric Dier has ended in disappointment, with the defender opting to join AS Monaco instead. However, the Whites are expected to explore other options in the transfer market, with a focus on signing a younger player to bolster their defence ahead of the new Premier League season. As reported by Mot Leeds News, the club will be looking to strengthen their squad in the coming weeks to ensure a successful campaign in the top flight.
