The highly anticipated fifth and final season of Stranger Things is set to arrive in 2025, as confirmed by Netflix during its Next on Netflix 2025 presentation. According to a report by the Economic Times, filming for the final season has been completed, marking the end of an era for the popular sci-fi horror series.

The Economic Times reports that Netflix confirmed the series would conclude with Season 5, as first announced in 2022, following the release of the fourth season. The creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, explained in a letter that the story was always meant to finish with the fifth season.

Production Timeline Revealed

Writing for Season 5 began in August 2022, with filming planned to start in May 2023 in Atlanta, Georgia. However, the production faced several delays due to strikes. The writers’ strike in May 2023 and the SAG-AFTRA strike in July 2023 delayed the schedule, with the Duffer Brothers confirming that filming could not begin during the strike. As reported by the Economic Times, construction on the sets continued, but actual filming was paused. Writing resumed after the WGA strike ended in late September 2023, and SAG-AFTRA reached a deal in November 2023. Filming finally began in January 2024 and was halfway done by July 3, 2024. The team wrapped filming on October 1, 2024, after 11 months of work, with Netflix officially confirming the wrap in December 2024.

Episode Titles and Directors Announced

The Economic Times reports that the first episode is titled "Chapter One: The Crawl". Other episode titles include "The Vanishing of Holly Wheeler" and "Escape from Camaztotz". The Duffer Brothers directed several episodes, with Frank Darabont and Shawn Levy also directing episodes. Dan Trachtenberg directed one episode as well.

Returning Cast Members Announced

The Economic Times confirms that many cast members are returning for the final season, including Millie Bobby Brown, Jamie Campbell Bower, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Winona Ryder, Charlie Heaton, David Harbour, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Joe Keery, Maya Hawke, Brett Gelman, Priah Ferguson, Cara Buono, Joe Chrest, and Amybeth McNulty.
