Tesco Error Sparks £100 Windfall Confusion: Who’s Entitled?

Tesco Apologises After Shoppers Mistakenly Think They’ve Been Handed £100 in Free Clubcard Points

Tesco has issued an apology after a technical error led to some of its Clubcard members mistakenly believing they had been awarded £100 in free points. The mix-up occurred when the supermarket giant partnered with easyJet Holidays to offer customers £100 worth of Clubcard points when booking a trip using Clubcard vouchers.

A technical glitch resulted in congratulatory emails being sent to some Clubcard members who were not eligible for the bonus points. The emails, which were mistakenly sent to some customers, caused confusion and excitement among shoppers who took to social media to share their surprise.

"I was amazed when I saw the email," said one customer. "I thought I had won £100 in Clubcard points out of the blue." However, it soon became apparent that the email was an error and that the customer was not eligible for the bonus points.

A Tesco spokesperson confirmed that the email was a mistake and apologised for the confusion. "An email meant for customers who had collected £100 of Clubcard points after booking an easyJet Holidays break using Tesco Clubcard Vouchers was mistakenly sent to other Clubcard members," the spokesperson said. "We are sorry about the confusion and have followed up with an email to the customers who wrongly received the message to apologise."

The promotion, which was launched earlier this year, allowed customers to earn £100 worth of Clubcard points when booking an easyJet Holidays break using Tesco Clubcard Vouchers. However, only those who booked a trip during the promotional period are eligible for the bonus points.

Tesco Clubcard: How it Works

Tesco Clubcard is a loyalty scheme that rewards customers for shopping at Tesco. Customers earn one point for every £1 spent in-store or online. Once 150 points have been accumulated, customers can redeem a voucher worth £1.50. The voucher can be used to get money off a shop in a local Tesco store or online, or with Tesco’s rewards partners.

In addition to earning points for shopping at Tesco, customers can also earn points by making purchases through Tesco’s partners, including Vauxhall, Evri, and OVO Energy. For example, customers who buy a new Vauxhall car can earn 50,000 Clubcard points, while those who spend £1 with Evri can earn one point.

Tesco’s Rewards Partners

Tesco has a range of rewards partners that offer customers the opportunity to earn points and redeem vouchers. The full list of partners is available on Tesco’s website. Customers can also double the value of their points by spending them with Tesco’s rewards partners.

Saving Money at Tesco

Tesco offers a range of ways for customers to save money. Here are a few tips:

  • Clubcard prices: Tesco’s Clubcard prices offer customers cheaper prices on a range of items. However, customers should always check prices before shopping to ensure they are getting the best deal.
  • Yellow stickers: Tesco reduces groceries with yellow stickers, usually between 7pm and 9pm. Customers can save money by shopping during this time.
  • Delivery saver pass: Customers who shop online can save money by buying a delivery saver pass, which can help cut the cost of delivery fees.
  • Click and collect: Customers can also save money by using click and collect slots, which can be as little as 25p.

Customers who have been affected by the technical error can contact Tesco’s customer service team for assistance. In the meantime, customers can continue to earn points and redeem vouchers through Tesco’s loyalty scheme.

The incident highlights the importance of accuracy and attention to detail when it comes to marketing and promotional campaigns. Tesco’s apology and swift response to the issue demonstrate the company’s commitment to customer satisfaction and transparency.

For more information on Tesco’s Clubcard scheme and how to earn points, customers can visit Tesco’s website or contact the company’s customer service team.
