Manchester United News: Jadon Sancho’s Future Uncertain as Summer Transfer Window Approaches
As the summer transfer window gears up to open, Manchester United and Jadon Sancho face an uncertain future. The 25-year-old winger is currently on loan at Chelsea, and according to the Manchester Evening News, there is an obligation-to-buy clause in the loan agreement.
Sancho has enjoyed an excellent start to life at Stamford Bridge, providing an assist in each of his first three appearances. He later helped Enzo Maresca’s side go on a five-game winning streak in the Premier League, with goals against Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur. However, Chelsea went five matches without a win, and Sancho seemed to lose his confidence. The United loanee went 16 games without finding the net before ending his goal drought with a brilliant goal in a 2-2 draw against Ipswich Town last month.
The Manchester Evening News understands that Chelsea have an obligation to buy Sancho from United for £25m; a clause that was activated when the Blues defeated Fulham last month, guaranteeing a finish 14th-place or above in the Premier League this season. However, Chelsea can pay a £5m penalty fee to cancel the deal. In order to remain compliant with profitability and sustainability rules, United require £14.58m for Sancho’s signature this summer.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the new owner of Manchester United, has questioned the club’s transfer policy in the past, including the signing of Sancho.
