Atalanta Seeks to End Season on High Note Against Genoa

Atalanta Prepares for Season Finale Against Genoa

The penultimate match of the season for Atalanta takes place this evening at 20:45 at the Ferraris in Genoa, against a Genoa side that has already secured its position in the league. Atalanta, having already qualified for the Champions League and secured third place with 71 points, will be looking to end the championship on a high note and achieve two successive wins to round out the ranking to 77 points.

According to Quotidiano Sport, Atalanta will be without the burden of needing to secure a specific result, allowing them to field a team consisting of players who have seen less action in recent months. This will provide an opportunity for players such as Ibrahim Sulemana, who was the hero of Monday’s match against Roma, to get some game time. Others who may feature include Brescianini, Samardzic, and Kossounou, who will be replacing the injured Kolasinac for the remainder of the championship.

The match will also hold a special significance for Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini, who has a history with Genoa having led the Grifone in two separate spells from 2006 to 2011 and 2014 to 2016. During his time at Genoa, Gasperini took the team from Serie B to Europe, and he will undoubtedly receive a warm reception from the Genoese fans.

Gasperini will not be the only one with a connection to Genoa, as Mateo Retegui, who played for the club last season, will be taking to the pitch against his former side. Retegui scored nine goals in 31 appearances for Genoa, and will be looking to make an impact against his former employers. Another player with a connection to Genoa is Zappacosta, while injured striker Scamacca will be watching from the stands.

The Atalanta squad is expected to feature some of the less-used players in recent months, with Quotidiano Sport suggesting that Daniel Maldini may finally get his chance to start, having been troubled by inflammatory problems in his Achilles tendon. Ademola Lookman is expected to start from the bench, while Kossounou will replace the injured Kolasinac.

In terms of the probable lineups, Quotidiano Sport reports that Genoa will line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Siegrist in goal, and a defence consisting of Sabelli, De Winter, Vasquez, and Martin. The midfield will feature Frendrup and Masini, while Zanoli, Messias, and Vitinha will support the lone striker Pinamonti.

Atalanta, on the other hand, are expected to line up in a 3-4-2-1 formation, with Carnesecchi in goal, and a defence consisting of Kossounou, Hien, and De Roon. The midfield will feature Bellanova, Ederson, Sulemana, and Ruggeri, while Samardzic and Maldini will support the lone striker Retegui.

The match will be broadcast live on DAZN this evening from 20:45, and Quotidiano Sport will be providing all the latest updates and analysis from the match.
