David Austin Roses Unveils ‘The King’s Rose’ in Honour of King Charles III
In a heartwarming tribute to His Majesty King Charles III, David Austin Roses has announced the launch of its newest rose variety, aptly named ‘The King’s Rose’. This exquisite rose was unveiled in honour of the monarch’s “lifelong dedication to nature and horticulture,” according to an article by Country Living.
The King’s Rose is a delicate, striped rose boasting distinct shades of fuchsia pink and white. This semi-double, repeat-flowering rose produces at least 20 buds per stem and emits a light to medium musk scent, with hints of fresh apple and rose water. As reported by Country Living, this rose is the latest addition to the breeder’s nursery and the first striped offering from David Austin Roses.
The versatile shrub can grow to approximately three to four feet tall, with a vase-shaped growth habit and heart-shaped leaves, featuring vibrant yellow stems to attract pollinators. As with all David Austin roses, The King’s Rose underwent an intensive 12-year breeding process, with more than 40,000 seedlings carefully nurtured, evaluated, and gradually shortlisted until one final one met the highest standards of fragrance, beauty, and robustness.
According to Country Living, over the past three years, this particular rose has been carefully nurtured by His Majesty’s team of gardeners in his private gardens at Highgrove. During this period, it has been flourishing in pots on the royal patio and also forms part of the newly installed crown sculpture at Highgrove by willow artist Emma Stothard.
