Rupert Friend Set to Star Opposite Lily James and Raffey Cassidy in ‘Photo Booth’
Rupert Friend has been cast alongside Lily James and Raffey Cassidy in the upcoming film ‘Photo Booth’, according to a report by The Hollywood Reporter. The film, which marks the feature directorial debut of sibling filmmakers Spencer and Lloyd Harvey, is described as an emotional thriller.
The movie tells the story of Jean, a renowned performance artist played by James, who has always prioritised her career over her family. However, after another devastating setback in her struggle to have a child with her artist husband Ben, played by Friend, their carefully curated life and marriage start to crumble. Ben confesses to a booze-induced affair with Millie, Cassidy’s character, who becomes pregnant. Jean then makes a bold move and invites Millie into their home.
Filming for ‘Photo Booth’ is expected to commence in October in Australia and London. The film is being produced by Cathy Konrad and her Tree Line Films, in conjunction with James and Gala Gordon’s Parodos Productions, Australian-based Carver Films, Sarah Shaw, and Anna McLeish. HanWay Films and UTA Independent Film Group will be handling sales during the Cannes Film Festival this week.
In a joint statement, the filmmakers explained that ‘Photo Booth is the story we needed to tell, one deeply rooted in the discussion of legacy and the choices that define us. As siblings and filmmakers, we’ve always been drawn to emotionally complex, character-driven stories that sit at the intersection of self-expression and identity.’ They added that having Lily James as their fearless Jean will be ‘electric’ and that they ‘can’t wait for the world to see what she does’.
Gabrielle Stewart, CEO of HanWay Films, praised the film, saying that ‘Photo Booth is a total page turner where intimate relationships are laid bare with razor-sharp dialogue. Rupert Friend is a fantastic addition to the cast as a sparring partner for Lily James, in this tense three-hander.’ She also noted that the award-winning screenplay is already garnering a lot of attention as they enter Cannes.
Rupert Friend is set to appear in several high-profile films, including Wes Anderson’s ‘The Phoenician Scheme’, which is set to premiere at the Palais this weekend. He will also star opposite Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali in ‘Jurassic World Rebirth’, Michel Franco’s ‘Dreams’, and Lucio Castro’s ‘After His Death’. Friend is repped by UTA, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, Imprint, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller, Gellman, Meigs & Fox.
The Harveys, the sibling filmmakers, are repped by UTA and newly-launched SEL Media Group. With ‘Photo Booth’, they are set to make a significant impact on the film industry with their feature directorial debut. As The Hollywood Reporter reports, the film is sure to be one to watch in the coming months.
