Alcock Opens Up: Acting Coach Sparked Self-Doubt

Yahoo News Canada Reports: Milly Alcock Opens Up About Receiving an Acting Coach on Set of ‘House of the Dragon’

In a recent interview with Jimmy Fallon on "The Tonight Show", Milly Alcock, the star of HBO’s hit series "House of the Dragon", revealed that her bosses on the show arranged for her to receive an acting coach just a day after she began filming. According to Yahoo News Canada, Alcock shared her experience on the show, providing insight into the challenges she faced as a young actress.

As reported by Yahoo News Canada, Alcock recounted the conversation she had with one of the high-ranking executives on set, who discreetly informed her that they would be getting her an acting coach. "On my second day on ‘House of the Dragon,’ one of the — I’m not going to say who, but someone very high up — pulled me aside and was like, ‘Um, we’re gonna get you an acting coach,’" Alcock revealed. This conversation left Alcock feeling uncertain about her abilities, as she confessed to Fallon that it made her feel "not very good at my job".

Alcock, who plays the role of young Rhaenyra Targaryen in the series, admitted that she had self-doubt about her performance. "It just confirmed everything that I’ve kind of known to be true, [which] is that I’m not very good at my job," she jokingly said. "You know what I mean! I was like, ‘I can’t do this. This is terrible. This is a big mistake.’" However, Fallon quickly reassured her, praising her performance and telling her that she was a fan favorite from the very start.

As noted by Yahoo News Canada, Fallon also highlighted the success of "House of the Dragon", which won the Golden Globe for Best Drama Series in 2023. Alcock downplayed her involvement in the award, saying that she "didn’t win it!", but Fallon wouldn’t let her off the hook, responding, "Yeah, you did. You won. Your show won." The show’s success has been well-received by audiences, with Season 2 currently streaming on HBO and production for Season 3 underway, featuring new additions to the cast, including Tommy Flanagan, Dan Fogler, Barry Sloane, Tom Cullen, and Joplin Sibtain.

The interview with Fallon marked Alcock’s first talk show appearance, and Yahoo News Canada reported that the young actress was gracious and humble in her conversation. When asked about her experience on set, Alcock was candid and open, providing a glimpse into the challenges she faced as a young actress in a high-pressure role.
