Giorgos Giakoumakis Opens Door to Stunning Celtic Return
In an exclusive interview with Record Sport, Giorgos Giakoumakis has revealed that he would love to return to Celtic, admitting that he dreams of playing for the Hoops again. The Greece international, who currently plays for Mexican giants Cruz Azul, made it clear that he would jump at the chance to re-sign for the club he will always adore.
According to Record Sport, Giakoumakis spoke from the heart as he lifted the lid on his emotional Parkhead exit for the first time. In a no-holds-barred conversation, the 30-year-old striker opened up on his reasons for leaving Celtic at the end of his debut season, his "fragile" relationship with former manager Ange Postecoglou and sporting director Michael Nicholson, and the reason he decided to quit Celtic Park and move Stateside to Atlanta United.
As reported by Record Sport, Giakoumakis exclusively told the publication: "You want to set the fire? I would love to play for Celtic again. I don’t know if that’s a utopia or if it could happen again – but who wouldn’t? Even if you don’t know what it feels like to be there, when you’ve already been there, you know exactly what it means." He added that if someone played for Celtic and was successful, it would be foolish for them to say they wouldn’t play for the club again.
Giakoumakis, who watched on with envy as returning hero and former teammate Jota was given a warm welcome home by the fans in January, said: "When I saw Jota coming back, I got into his position and how amazing he would feel getting in there again. He went to Saudi, he went on loan to France. He probably wasn’t happy in any of these places. He didn’t have the same importance. He didn’t have the same happiness or freedom. But I felt straight away, like, how he must have felt."
The striker fantasises about the thought of Celtic fans chanting his name again, adding: "Oh my God. That would be like an amazing dream. It would be amazing." Giakoumakis’ comments have sparked excitement among Celtic fans, who would undoubtedly welcome him back with open arms.
As Record Sport reports, Giakoumakis’ future at Cruz Azul remains uncertain, and it’s unclear whether a return to Celtic is feasible. However, one thing is certain – the striker’s love for the club and its fans has never wavered. With his contract at Cruz Azul set to expire, Giakoumakis may yet get the opportunity to rejoin Celtic and write the next chapter in his Parkhead story.
In part two of his exclusive interview with Record Sport, Giakoumakis is set to lift the lid on his Celtic exit and his "fragile" relationship with Ange Postecoglou. With more revelations from the Greek striker set to emerge, Celtic fans will be eagerly anticipating the next installment of his story.
