Vaibhav Suryavanshi Makes History as Youngest IPL Debutant at Age 14
In a remarkable turn of events, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi has become the youngest player to make his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut, according to a report by the Times of India. Suryavanshi, who was born in 2011, achieved this unique milestone by becoming the first IPL player to be born after the tournament’s inception in 2008.
The young debutant stepped in for Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson, who was sidelined due to a side injury for the match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Saturday evening. Suryavanshi was named as an Impact Sub by Rajasthan Royals against LSG in IPL 2025, marking a significant moment in IPL history.
As reported by the Times of India, Suryavanshi had made history last year as well when the Bihar youngster was picked at the mega auction for Rs 1.1 crore. At 13 years old, he had become the youngest to bag an IPL deal. The teenager has a triple-century to his name – an unbeaten 332 – in the Randhir Verma Tournament, an U-19 competition in Bihar.
"He’s played five first-class matches and scored 100 runs at an average of 10.00 at a strike rate of 63.29," the Times of India reported. Suryavanshi’s inclusion in the Rajasthan Royals team was hinted at by stand-in captain Riyan Parag at the toss, where LSG decided to bat.
"We were looking to bowl, it is a little bit warm under lights, should be better than the last time. Vaibhav the youngster comes in," Parag said at the toss. "It’s been kinda tricky, we’ve been doing small bits right but we haven’t been able to put a collective performance together, we’ve been having honest chats as a team. We love playing here, we know the conditions well, hope we can put that to good use," he added.
As noted by the Times of India, Suryavanshi’s debut marks a significant moment in IPL history, with the young player breaking the record for the youngest player to feature in the tournament since its beginning in 2008. The Times of India reported that Suryavanshi has been making waves in the cricketing world with his impressive performances in the U-19 competitions.
The Rajasthan Royals team has been going through a tough phase in the tournament, and the inclusion of Suryavanshi is seen as a move to boost the team’s morale and inject fresh energy into the squad. As reported by the Times of India, Suryavanshi’s debut is being seen as a significant moment in his career, with many cricketing experts and fans eagerly waiting to see how he performs in the tournament.
