Arson Attack on 5G Mast in West Belfast Branded “Extremely Reckless” by Police
A 5G phone mast in west Belfast was set ablaze in an arson attack on Wednesday, March 13, 202. The incident, the third of its kind in a week, happened in the Poleglass area. According to the Belfast Telegraph, images show the mast ablaze.
The Belfast Telegraph reports that Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) responded to a report of a fire in the Kestrel Grange area of Dunmurry. Sergeant Brown of the PSNI described the attack as “extremely reckless” and emphasized the dangers of setting electrical equipment on fire.
The motivations behind a string of attacks on 5G masts across Northern Ireland remain unclear. When quizzed on the issue, Sinn Fein MP Paul Maskey called for an end to such attacks, calling it ‘irrational and absolutely absurd’.
“It continued campaign is irrational and absolutely absurd,” he said.
They are causing serious disruption, endangering lives, and this futile behaviour must stop immediately”, he urged.
