British Gas to Offer Half-Price Energy for 2 Hours Tomorrow
British Gas, a leading energy firm with over 7 million customers, is launching a flash deal that could see eligible customers paying half-price for their energy for a limited time. According to The Sun, the energy giant will be offering discounted energy in a flash deal on Thursday, May 16, from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm.
During this two-hour window, PeakSave customers will pay just half the usual rate for electricity, allowing them to save on their energy bills. This initiative is part of British Gas’s Green Flex event, which aims to encourage customers to take advantage of greener and cheaper power. As The Sun reports, this is the second Green Flex event of the month and the fourth of the year.
To qualify for the discount, customers must be signed up to the PeakSave scheme, which is free to join. However, customers must be British Gas customers with a smart meter already installed. The discount will be reflected as credit on customers’ energy accounts. According to The Sun, over 920,000 households have shared over £23 million in PeakSave rewards so far.
British Gas encourages customers to take advantage of the greener and cheaper power, especially during periods of blustery and sunny weather that cause a surge in renewable energy. The company stated, “This is our second Green Flex event of the month and fourth of the year, helping customers make savings on their bills.”
In addition to the Green Flex event, PeakSave members already enjoy half-price electricity every Sunday from 11 am to 4 pm without needing to opt-in. Customers can sign up for the PeakSave scheme by logging into their British Gas account online, heading to the PeakSave section, and registering their interest. The company will notify customers when new Green Flex events are about to go live.
The scheme is part of a wider push across energy providers to encourage customers to shift usage outside of peak hours. As The Sun notes, other energy companies, such as EDF, OVO, Scottish Power, and Octopus Energy, are also offering similar schemes to help customers save on their energy bills.
For example, EDF offers free electricity on Sundays to customers who cut weekday peak usage, while OVO customers could pocket up to £2,000 in credits by switching to off-peak power. Scottish Power gives Power Saver members 50% off weekend electricity, and E.ON Next is handing out free electricity every Bank Holiday until 2026.
In the meantime, customers who are struggling to pay their energy bills can seek help from their energy supplier or a third-party organization. Several energy firms have schemes available to customers struggling to cover their bills, including British Gas, which offers grants worth up to £2,000.
Customers can also sign up to the Priority Services Register (PSR) to receive extra help and protections, such as advance warning of blackouts, free gas safety checks, and extra support if they’re struggling.
To keep energy bills low, experts recommend simple actions such as turning the heating down by one degree, switching appliances and lights off when not in use, installing a smart meter, and considering switching energy suppliers.
