A Place In The Sun Presenter Jasmine Harman Reveals the Emotional Highs and Lows of House Hunting Abroad
Finding the perfect property abroad can be a dream come true for many house hunters, but it can also be a journey filled with disappointment and heartbreak. For Jasmine Harman, presenter of Channel 4’s A Place In The Sun, helping people find their ideal home is a job she takes very seriously. In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, Jasmine opened up about the emotional highs and lows of house hunting abroad, and revealed a particularly "upsetting" moment on the show that left her and her companions in tears.
According to Jasmine, the incident occurred when she was house hunting with a young lady who had been through a "terrible time". After an extensive search, they had finally found her perfect home, but disaster struck when they attempted to secure the purchase. "The most upsetting moment that I’ve had on this show was quite recently when I was house hunting with a lovely lady, and she had her best friend with her," Jasmine explained. "And she came to me in the morning, and she decided to make an offer on the property, so I had to break the news to her. I called the agent to ensure they were standing by, but the property had been sold that morning before we spoke. It was awful."
Jasmine described the scene as "horrendous", saying that she and her companions were all crying their eyes out. "It was really upsetting because we were all on this big high," she said. "She had been through a lot, this poor lady. She had been through a really terrible time. It was like a new chapter but the rug got pulled out from under her. So that was really horrible." This experience highlights the emotional investment that Jasmine and her team put into helping people find their dream homes, and the devastating consequences that can occur when things don’t go as planned.
However, it’s not all bad news, as there was a silver lining for one house-hunting couple. Jasmine recalled a married pair, Lisa and Paul, whose dream was realised. "One couple I remember were lovely," she said. "Lisa and Paul. She had cancer, and he had looked after her. They didn’t have a lot of money. She received some cash from the health insurance after she got ill, and they had a very low budget, so we took them on a very emotional house hunt." Jasmine and her team found them an apartment, which they bought, and it was a "lovely, really amazingly emotional moment".
Jasmine visited Lisa and Paul again for the Channel 4 spin-off show A New Life In The Sun, and was amazed at the difference it had made in their lives. "It was so heartwarming to see how they changed their lives so dramatically with their health and new opportunity to travel and make new friends," she said. "That was a really emotional revisit for me." This heartwarming story is a testament to the positive impact that A Place In The Sun can have on people’s lives.
As a seasoned property expert and presenter, Jasmine has seen her fair share of successes and failures on the show. She says that finding the perfect property abroad is not just about the physical location, but also about the emotional connection that people make with a place. "It’s not just about the house, it’s about the lifestyle," she said. "It’s about the community, the culture, the food, the sunshine… it’s about everything that comes with it." With her expertise and passion, Jasmine continues to help people find their dream homes abroad, and her dedication to her job is evident in every episode of A Place In The Sun.
